Maybe Taidgh is thinking about it the wrong way around. If Irish men weren't allowed to leave the country in a sort of Albanian clampdown then they wouldn't be able to take their one true gael-sperm abroad and it wouldn't be lost for making benefit of glorious nation of Irelandistan.

And there's possibly more bad times on the way.

Brexit next year and sooner or later the large countries of the EU will move to take away the tax advantages Ireland gives to multinationals.

Looks then like the one true Gael-Babbeh may well be rightly buggered. No change there then in relation to religion in Ireland.

    Can't agree with that.

We have obscenely biased media which take the same line on the same issues and block any competing pov.

The statistics for coverage of abortion related issues make for stunning reading.

How can any democracy function effectively when such bias and misinformation are an accepted part of daily media life?

There isn't one mainstream broadcaster or journalist who is unbiased or who hasn't been bought.

Oh for the free-ranging editorials of Alive! (Ireland's wideliest distributed newspaper, apparently) or the Catholic Herald, the very epitome of unbiased journalism...

When a system is as rotten as the one you point to, it falls, it always does, it just takes time.

It already is. The fall started on 25 May this year and it won't be stopped. Soon there'll be no hypocritical foreign travel for Irish abortions and no amount of zealots and hypocrites will stop that because you're an ever dwindling minority. Thirty five years ago you may have had the might to install an absolute clusterfock of an an amendment into the constitution, but not any more, we voted to end the hypocrisy and that vote included over 1 million self declared catholics. Only bigots and hypocrites deal in black and white. The rest of us are realistic and compassionate enough to see the grey areas.
All the world's a stage... That we're just going through.

The antis got a higher proportion of the media coverage than their vote deserved. And numerous commentators were anti choice.

    Fail better
