    Default Sean Garland RIP

Former Workers Party leader and IRA man Garland has died after a long illness, He was 84. His legacy strikes me as being somewhat mixed, to say the least.

He was an interesting character, probably the best I can say about him?

Yes, I think that's the best that can be said.

He walked a very long road, and by no means always in the right direction.

None the less, may he find some peace, peace he seems to have difficulty apprehending in life?

We have to commend him for his early work with the IRA. After that maybe not.

A good man, who dedicated his life to attempting to build a better Ireland

His embrace of Stalinism and Communist International from the 1970s onwards was misjudged,

On wonders if the split with the INLA and subsequent bloody feuds had not happened what impact would himself and likes of Seamus Costello have had on Ireland.
