1 Para should now be disbanded

Surely justice now demands that the disgraced 1 para now be disbanded?

There is a precedent in the Commonwealth where a Canadian parachute unit was disbanded.

Somalia Affair - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"The Canadian Airborne Regiment was a Canadian Forces formation created on April 8, 1968. It was not an administrative regiment in the commonly accepted British Commonwealth sense, but rather a tactical formation manned from other regiments and branches. It was disbanded in 1995 after the Somalia Affair."

"Questions were asked about why 2 Commando was chosen for that mission despite disciplinary problems at the time. Perhaps most damaging to the leadership of the Canadian military was how it reacted after the events became public, as accusations of covering up the event surfaced."

Parallels with Bloody Sunday, including the cover up.

Williewatcher,

How about disbanding Sinn Fein?

Who's membership have killed far more 'innocents' than the Parachute Regiment.

So you have the numbers of innocents murdered by the "PARASITE REGIMENT" to hand then BC,and not just in terms of Ireland, the numbers since the Dirt were founded,if so produce them and back up your diatribe.

Well if you want to move the goal posts to fit your argument will we be counting every life lost in the name of Irish Republicanism too?

BC, Sinn Féin is to the IRA, what the British Government is to 1 Para.

Now, on that basis, why would Sinn Féin be disbanded?

So, going by your impeccable logic, the Tories should also be disbanded.

Uh oh.
Which member of the Conservative Party has killed innocent people?

What about... what about... what about... what about... what about...

Do you northerners (from both camps) ever get tired of it?

From an article in 2001 by Eamon McCann

THE PARACHUTE Regiment are a curious phenomenon. Formed during the Second World War with a view to inserting large-scale forces behind enemy lines, they were soon redundant.

By the time of the Korean War, their specialist function was being more efficiently filled by helicopter-borne infantry. Since then, despite the cherished cap badge of a set of wings either side of a parachute beneath the crown of the reigning monarch, the self image of this “elite” cannot be sustained by reference to parachuting into battle or, indeed, to parachuting at all.

What’s left, what leads them still to refer to all other regiments as “crap hats”, is a readiness to do things in battle which “ordinary” soldiers might balk at.

In the Falklands the Paras notoriously collected the ears and other bodily appendages of Argentine conscripts they had killed, some after surrender. Physical strength, mental toughness, a willingness to inflict and endure great pain, a tendency generally to regard extreme violence as congenial – these are among the essential qualities of the Para, displayed over the years on “internal security” missions in Kenya, Malaya, Cyprus, Aden and Northern Ireland. A number of Paras who have made written statements to the inquiry claim that they were told before setting off for Derry to “get some kills”. Even without that, the Paras, given their well established role and reputation, would have been expected by those who deployed them to try to “get some kills” in Derry. It kind of has been. 1 Para is now the Special Forces Support Group (SFSG). Well about 75% of SFSG.

What are the facts on the "paras" tour of duty in the six counties

Anyone know?

It says on wiki that they lost 40 men dead.

How many Battalion Tours completed?
How many dead and wounded?
How many People did they kill and wound?

Anyone have any stats?

The Republican cause is a noble cause even so numbers wouldnt come within light years of what Britains imperial war machine has inflicted on its colonies and elsewhere,as i said in an earlier post you are delusional BC,and the longer you continue to post on this site the more delusional you become, eventually the men in the white coats will arrive to put you somewhere out of harms way.DISBAND THE PARASITE REGIMENT NOW.

I say leave the murdering cowards intact. Other than the bigoted and hateful ramblings of unionists the scum are a great enroller for the republican cause. Sure fire reminders of how low the brits have gone in the past and could easily again if not minded carefully.
