15 or 16 dead, hundreds injured, as Israeli forces fire on Gazan protesters.

Palestinian protests at the Gaza/Israel border have incurred hundreds of casualties today when Israeli forces used live rounds, besides tear gas and 'sub-lethal' weapons. There seem to have been no Israeli casualties.

Gaza-Israel border: Clashes 'leave 16 Palestinians dead and hundreds injured' - BBC News

The protests were in support of their right of return as refugees.

The excessive use of force ( some Israeli commanders believed there was a threat to their border fence) argues for an international intervention ( peacekeeping forces?, demilitarised zone?) in a situation where this bilateral confrontation of grossly inequal parties has become endlessly locked in a disturbing abuser/victim paradigm.
The wilful impoverishment of the people of Gaza needs reversed, for human dignity, for human progress, and as a model for how other displaced and dispossessed people ( eg the Rohinga) will be assisted by the world community.

Comment:
I appeal: protests should not be made that are merely suicidal/self-injurious.
The refugees of Gaza already HAVE their right of return, confirmed by the UN, the highest moral authority in the world. Let's help them implement it, even in the smallest degree.

Peacekeeping ? There'd have to be a peace agreement to keep. Maybe you mean peace enforcement by the UN ? That rules out the small countries like Ireland who can only operate on a chapter 6 mandate as they simply don't have the numbers or, more importantly, the war materiel. That leaves the big players, like France, the UK, America and Russia. Can you see this happening ?

Hamas trying to get their own people killed again so that the world will condemn Israel. Send these people back to their homes and not be threatening mass invasion of Israel.

What recognised right of return are you talking about. There is none.

Tell me if in 1948 the Israeli leaders barred the refugees who had just assaulted the Jewish community from returning, viewing them as a potential fifth column and threat to the Jewish state's existence, how has that changed in the meantime? Can you fault their fears and logic either?

The reality is that most Palestinians want the State of Israel destroyed entirely. Until that changes I don't think the Israelis will budge. The continued existence of their nation takes precendence. Jews will not meekly walk into the gas chambers again. In this case, the gas chambers of jihad.

It's a complete joke. It really is a shame that so many of our world bodies are so toothless and spineless.

That so much clout in the UN is given to nations with shady or extremely poor credentials on democracy really shows what a joke it is.

Crikey, the ignorant don't sleep. This Great March of Return, was organised by several Palestinian civil society organisations and backed by all of political factions. The legimate protest started specifically on the 42nd anniversary of Land Day.

But let's not let something like the truth seep into your ignorance.

There are now over 1500 Palestinians wounded by the IDF.
Mass invasion of Israel indeed, with their catapults and bamboo flag sticks.

Cut to the chase. Are there Palestinians/arabs who would sacrifice their lives if it meant a victory over the Jews?
Clearly there are. Doesn't it stand to reason then... a lie or two as to methods they use to that end is a given?

The French Declaration of the Rights of Man and of Citizen (1790) includes a "right to resist oppression". France should support the Gazans though not Hamas. Being cooped up like a chicken in an iron cage of barbed wire, tanks and warships, with cancer treatment denied to Gazans and Israeli industry price gouging for supplies is clearly oppression. The Declaration is part of the French Constitution.

After Day 1 of 42:

16 dead; 1500 injured - All Palestinian
Hamas will be happy about that. Do you honestly think Israel will, from any perspective you can think of.

PS nearly all the significant statements released and speeches made at the mass rally are from the terrorist Hamas leaders who run the enclave. These speeches are only rubber-stamped by all the English speaking NGOs that put 'peace' in their titles for the benefit of the international audience.
