James Reily, Jim O'Keefe, Bernard Allen of FG and John O'Donoghue of FF, who were stranded abroad as a result of the volcanic ash cloud have all been allowed to be marked present for a week of Dáil sittings they missed.

Four TDs granted expenses exemption - RT News

All 4 wrote to the CC to request that they be marked present for the days because of the unusual circumstances.

More irritating expense claims. John O'Donoghue really has some neck in particular.

"Documents released to RTÉ News under the Freedom of Information Act show four TDs did just that.

Fine Gael's Jim O'Keeffe was stranded in Bangkok, while party colleague Bernard Allen was in Portugal. .... Fine Gael's James Reilly had been returning from doing charity work in Haiti. Fianna Fáil's John O'Donoghue was also stranded abroad "

It's good to see that for Doc Reilly, charity begins at home. ;-)

I wonder why we weren't told where in the world Junket Johnnie was stranded - and whether the fragrant Kate Anne was with him.

The fact that they got the expenses is'nt the irritating part, its the fact that they actually looked for them is irritating.Chris Andrews was'nt far wrong in suggesting a merger between FF and FG as it seems they have the same ethics.

Why is there no detail on what O'Donohue was doing? If he was on holiday, then surely this is an abuse?

Typical of the political class, the sense of entitlement is strong in these one's. If a junior civil servants who was stranded abroad applied to be paid their lost allowances, then would be laughed out of it and then told you have to actually turn up for work to get paid dummy !.

Why would any of the party leaders make any sort of move? Let it blow over, sure all the real news is about the €15b cuts etc. This will be forgotten about by tomorrow.

Why? Because the voters of Ireland don't care. Do you think many care about those 4 councilors arrested last week? Do you think many still even think about Callely? Voters of Ireland are only interested in what they can get for themselves, they don't care what the TDs do the rest of the time.

Why would a TD not take the money, to be honest any TD who doesn't take advantage of such an inept system should be questioned about their ability to run any department as they can't even get free money for themselves.

JoD, Bertie, CJH, Burke, Lawlor are the names that spring to mind, but the only reason they are not all FG or Labour is that FG/Labour haven't had the access to the power for so long.

Until Ireland grows up and outgrows our colonial past, where we see breaking the law as something to be proud of, a cute hoor someone to look up to, sticking it to the Man the best show in town, we will get exactly what we deserve.

We deserve this from our politicians becuase inside the vast majority of voters is the knowledge that if they were in that position they would do exactly the same.

Is there another job in the world where you have a salary which is enhanced for each day you turn up for work ?

Suspend them from their parties and O'Reilly obviously gone from the front bench.

Although all 3 FGers were Enda backers, so maybe he can't afford to see them suspended.
