Some further information - the families have been neigbours for more than 5 years but less than 10 - and all children were adults before either party moved to their current addresses.

For me the clincher here is that elderly people are being asked to mind other elderly folk. There are other and younger neighbours about.

I'll put it this way for you P.ie - if it were my parents being asked to do this, this to me exceeds the bounds of good neighbourliness - and I or my siblings would be dug out the old ladies kids giving them a richly deserved wake up call.
