Irom Chanu Sharmila, the Indian hunger striker, ends a 16-year fast on Tuesday in Manipur at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital, where she is being held by police. Irom began the strike in November 2000 after the Malon massacre, in which 10 people were killed by a government-backed paramilitary force. She is ending the fast to possibly enter government and get married.

Now that is what I call dedication!

But why have we never heard of her?

For sure if she was a Palestinian or Chinese the western media will be all over this one

- why does India get such a free ride?:?

Hope he does, better off there than here, but that woman is a living martyr for human rights, can't see o Gorman going on hunger strike or putting himself out when there is so much money to be made off eejits that think another Geldof will make any difference only to their bank balance.

I am not cynical but a realist, O Gorman, Geldof, the lot of the bullsh1tters like them sell guilt not solutions and make tons of money and garner fame in the process,

the mega cities are coming, in our lifetime we will see it,

Force fed for 16 years under hospital house arrest.

Brave lady but what has she achieved?
Sometimes it not necessarily what you have achieved by your actions, but that you had the courage and will to abide by your beliefs.

A hunger strike means no food. If she was doing it for 16 years, she was doing it wrong.
