An absolutely incredible video that was uploaded to YouTube just today that really illustrates the size of the Universe.

It really makes you think about how far knowledge has come in recent decades. 25 years ago, the observable universe stretched little beyond Pluto. 500 years ago, many believed Earth was flat.

It certainly challenges the creationist idea too.

Enjoy.

Thanks

They did?

Purely as a matter of interest

- but what age are you exactly?

It certainly challenges the creationist idea too.

No it doesn't

- how do you make that out?

Whats really funny is after blowing your mind with the sheer tininess of the earth, the galaxy etc, and the insignificance of humanity in the midst of this huge cosmos, the guy keeps saying "And we can do you a website, for 10% off.... SquareSpace is having a sale on..."

On a very practical level, it took God three days to create the Earth but one day to make the Universe.

Was he hungover or something?

We are all just a tiny spec within the galaxy of infinate galaxies, in the whole universe, we havnt discoved even a fraction of what is out there.

It's assumed that the it would take a journey of 93 billion lights years to traverse the Universe (that's travelling at the speed of light for each year, for 93 billion years).

That's just the observable part. Wait until the replacement for Hubble is up and running and you may see many multitudes of that.

Solar system old chap. Not Universe.

Absolutely! Great video. Thanks for sharing.

I always remember Dad pointing at stars and constellations and telling me about them. There is a moment as a child, an epiphany, when you realize how big it all is and then instantly, like a blow, you realize how small you are. All in one instant you are transformed into something else. That! That is everything. Everything!

You've completely missed the point, Rural. I was just illustrating how far our knowledge has come.
