"As vegans, we are changing society's attitude towards non human animals, equality, rights, justice, health and language, to name some. As vegans living in a Non-Vegan World we need to be creative, aspirational and active to bring about change and simply get by day to day. This workshop invites people to imagine a Vegan future, a Vegan World and will gather ideas about how to get there using games, art, discussion and performance.

Bring your dreams, inspirational passages from literature, poems, quotes or scripts to share and read aloud.

Bring photos, images or art that conveys the Vegan future, Vegan world you wish. Sing or dance. Be there.

This workshop will happen during our regular Tuesday community event where you can dine on whole food and organic vegan cuisine. Food served 5.30pm onwards."

Ruuts and Shuuts.

Where: Exchange Dublin, Exchange Street Upper, Temple Bar, Dublin 2.
When: Tuesday 4th June.
Time: 5.30pm, Workshop starts at 6pm to 8pm.
Contact: ruutsandshuuts[at]gmail[dot]com.

It was a beautiful evening yesterday as I sat outside our Dutch friends house with my wife and kids eating an unbelievable mixture of sautéed meat on the BBQ, mixed with a couple of ice cold Leffe Belgian beers .Even their dog enjoyed it ,as he sat chewing the bones of the leftovers in the evening haze . Sometimes, all is well in the real world .

Seems I posted this just when the children are waking up. Do your parents know you are using the computer kiddies?

It's always the abuse from the aggressive vegans. Do us a favour and eat your leaves in quiet and leave everyone else alone. Nobody ever says to you that you should eat meat so return the favour.

Roger, will the workshop contain the usual stuff you push, such as the but where you refer to a Un report advocating we become vegans? How many times is the word vegan mentioned in that report roger?

Now, I k ow you don't know yet, as you admitted you didn't even read the report, so I assume you will have to go away and actually read it, but that's ok isn't it?

Will you also be pushing the comparison of modern farming to the holocaust like you did when presenting to those school kids?

Roger you are starting to spam this site in a serious way, there are a couple of thousand regular users of this site and then there is you and 1 or 2 acolytes, yet you can have anything up to 3 threads on the front page. Even the global warming lads are good enough to keep it to one continuous thread.
Can you not pick one thread and add to it?

You'll have to ask the organisers, wexfordman, since I will not be there.

I see you have used this new thread to begin all the misinformation - again - even though it has been dealt with elsewhere.

If I've broken any PIE rules, Dylan 2010, I apologise. However, I have read the instructions at the top of the page and it says that the Events section is a, "Forum to share and detail public events and meetings of interest to Politics.ie users and readers."

Are you suggesting that once any subject has a sngle event attached to it - feminism, atheism, socialism, environmentalism - then no new thread is ever started and people just add new event notifications to older ones?

It is not true that no-one gets told to eat meat. We are living in a deeply speciesist culture which normalises the violence it does to other animals. In that culture, children but adults too are encouraged to eat animal flesh and animal secretions because many people think it is necessary, or right, or that there is no moral issues in doing so.

Isn't every McDonald's advertisement and sign suggesting that people eat other animals?

As a vegan, it is simply not possible to engage with the mass media and advertising without being subject to repeated speciesist propaganda.

Will there be a bomb making break out session?

You'll have to ask the organisers but I seriously doubt that there will.

I have never been to such a session - have you? Perhaps you are suggesting that you run one yourself? However, Ruuts and Shuuts are an entirely peaceful group as far as I know, promoting veganism, rights, equality, and other necessary elements of a just society, so I doubt that they will be keen if you are offering to run this session.

if you are the only peron starting threads I think you should limit the number of threads ,if global warming can be dealt with under 1 thread, I think veganism which by any measure on this site is a minority sport could be dealt with under 1 thread. to hang on to the coattales of topics like " ...atheism, socialism...." is amusing where the depth of interest is vastly different.

It seems clear to me that the Events section is to alert people to events, plain and simple. I'm sure the mods will move this if they think there have been any PIE rules broken.

On the depth of interest, there are two points to make I think. First, we know by looking at the stats, if they are accurate, that many more people view these threads than write in them. Second, how does any issue grow a depth of interest except from a relatively low (or lower) base?

I think these threads reveal the depth of cultural speciesism in our society, so much so that there seems to be immediate attempts each time to derail serious discourse about veganism or issues like animal rights. Instead, we get childishness, people posting pictures of dead animals, and people repeating points and allegation that have been long dealt with elsewhere.

Is it possible that people are so afraid of the subject not because it makes no sense to them but that it does make sense and they don't like it?

I often wonder about the people who post in disagreement with veganism. The majority of people are unaware of the ways in which they are speciesist, and the ways in which their daily non-vegan actions inflict violence on equally sentient others, human and non-human. Because they are unaware they do not care enough to post here. I wonder why the people who do post, and expend such an amount of time and energy in those posts, do so? It strikes me that the people who invest so much of themselves in these kinds of posts must have an interest in perpetuating the exploitation of non-human animals. Why? What does it mean to you to continue living violently and unsustainably?

Not only are those posting apparently doing so in defence of routine and systematic violence against billions of individuals (that's billions per year), they also defend the social culture in which such exploitation thrives.

One revealing factor seems to be the violence in the language they use to defend violent activities.
