Offshore abortion women's group is given licence again

An “abortion ship” is planning to sail to countries where the practice is illegal and take women out to sea for terminations after the Dutch Government lifted restrictions banning it from international waters.

Under the terms of its licence, the group is [again] able to sail under the Dutch flag in international waters and hand out “abortion pills” for women up to seven weeks pregnant, causing them to have a miscarriage.

We are in touch with women’s organisations in several different countries. There are still three countries where abortion is illegal in Europe

The abortion boat visited Ireland in 2001 and Poland in 2003
So will it get here in time for election ? If we can have an abortion ship why not one for smoking pot or even an e-party ship ?

What a poor attempt at a joke. A shockingly bad sense of humour......... You must be an FG supporter?

Why stop there? We could have a ship offering assisted suicide services.

In fairness tisn't really a significant difference v Manchester say, at best a saving of a few hours. Moreso it is a matter of perception/psychology: having the ship "in your face" docked in Dublin & knowing that on same ship "abortions" will be performed is somewhat of a challenge. It publicises whole issue.

However a "drugs party ship" would be quite different in that the party could start whilst on shore with some booze at say 8pm & then head out at 10pm returning at say 6am - a seamless offering.

Assisted suicide and abortion are hardly the same thing, even from a pro-life standpoint.

It makes no diffrence WHERE it takes place, the point is it does, we shoudl be more concerned with eliminating abortion than the where.

They're both legal in The Netherlands. The focus was on the ship finding ways to subvert, or get around, the laws of another country.

Or eliminating the circumstances where women feel they have no choice but to have an abortion.

Abortion is hugely emotive issue that generates a lot of hysterics from extremely polarised and entrenched positions.

It needs to be debated openly minus the zealots on both sides.

We can do that by getting on a ship to hollyhead.
