Seems that the details of over 49 million Instagram users (influencers, celebrities and zelebrities) were scraped by an Indian company and the database was left accessible without a password.

This seems to be another headache for Facebook (it owns Instagram).

Web scraping. These people may have downloaded webpages from Instagram and extracted the data and stored them in the database. It is a serious problem for large websites as this data can be valuable. They either use computers in data centres or compromised PCs to download the data. However, it is a Facebook owned company and FB hasn't a great record on privacy.

anything that is free to use is usually of a "Lower standard" and all companies swallowed up by F****B***** are toxic. The "Free to Use" user is the product which all these high tech companies harvest and sell in bundles of millions to other tech companies for millions of dollars. It is all "Money for nothing" , the data is collected and monetized by F***B**** and sold .

This wasn't Facebook that was scraping the data.
