Again on Drivetime (Radio 1), Gerry Adams pontificates about how he and his colleagues are paid the average industrial wage. So what?

Is he suggesting that everyone should be paid the same salary?

If so, if he ever has to go for heart-surgery, he won't mind if the hospital plumber performs the operation?

It does go well with the average gargle drinking punter.

The fact that his lifestyle is funded by stolen bank money and drug money from Columbia (according to our Minister For Justice) escapes them.

I've got to get me one of those 'average industrial wages' 'cos clearly it's enough to pay for nice holiday homes and luxury cars.

What kind of industry is he basing it on- the sex industry? I hear there's a lot of cash to be made from pimping. Beyond that I'm not quite sure what sort of industry would provide the income for the standard of living to which Adams, McGuinness et al have become accustomed.

That whole thing seems a bit too socialist if you ask me. I don't want to live in a country where surgeons are paid the same as cleaners.

I guess Sinn Fein members can afford to take lower salaries as many of them have a high amount of "other" forms of income.

According to your Minister for Justice Bertie Ahern has feck all to answer for regarding his financial affairs as well... I'm sure you'll agree 100% there.

As for Unicorn, are you gonna start a new thread everytime Adams opens his gob?

if everyone was paid the same salary then there would be no reward for bettering ones oppertunities and improving the lot of ones family. this kind of logic does not work as was proven time and time again.

and future proof that he has no / limited understanding of economics

Do Gerry and Martin draw their Westminster salaries (the much loathed Queen's shilling, so to speak) for being absentee MPs? If so, how much of this do they donate to Sinn Fein coffers and how much do they pocket?

How much of Gerry's considerable income from publishing does he contribute to the party?

How does someone on the average industrial wage manage to build a luxury holiday home in County Donegal?

Do any of the many British agents in the upper echelons of SF/PIRA contribute their earnings from MI5 to the party? For instance, did the late Denis Donaldson?

It's quite clear that Gerry Adams has another source of income other than his political salary - and that's his writing. How many best sellers has he written by now? A good few. More than enough to finance a house in Donegal. It's disingenuous for the barely literate McDowell to call him on that one. And if anyone can prove that his lifestyle is funded by drug money, they should provide the evidence to the Gardai and he should be arrested. Failing that, they should shut the f*** up.....

Just a small note on the minister for inequality is good, every year coming into his house he has his income plus that of his mrs prof Niamh Brennan and the substantial rent from his spare house on Manders Terrace in Ranelagh I would'nt want to throw all that away either.

he either lives on the average industrial wage, or he doesn't. Gerry Adams has made millions from his best sellers. This is what funds his holiday home etc. Gerry Adams doesnt live on the avge industrial wage. Gerry adams is a liar and a hypocrite

I'm no apologist for Mickey McDowell, but "barely literate"? Hardly that!

And Gerry has long had a penchant for Armani suits - affordable on the average industrial wage?

Adams himself makes a virtue of giving the impression that he lives on the average industrial wage, if as many claim he has an other income stream from his writing to supplement his standard of living, it's disingenuous to say the least for him to claim he's living on the average industrial wage.

My understanding -

Adams takes the AIW from SF but as has been mentioned above he has made millions from books etc.

The same applies to Mary Lou McDonald - her husband owns a very profitable management company that MLMcD was a partner in.

Arthur Morgan is a partner in the family fish exporting business.

There is a big difference between taking the AIW from Sinn Fein and actually living on the AIW - for that you have to look at Joe Higgins of the Socialist Party.

that's exactly the point, they are not living on the AIW so its a tad hypocritical

Just spotted El Matadors comment about McGuiness et al. I understand that McGuinness lives in a modest house in the Bogside which is more than can be said for El Mat. Clearly those on the SDLP payroll are not satisfied with drawing an industrial wage.

And as stated elsewhere, he earns cash from his writings? Whats the problem? He earns extra cash from this on top of his salary?

This is not at odds with his calls for fairer wages - if he won the cash on the lotto should he give it back?

All I hear is a load of pathetic little ar*eholes whining about Gerry because they know SF is probably going to wield a lot of power in the next few weeks.

And it kills some people. (Awaits the usual - well it killed some people for real......blah, blah, blah.....)

At least he isnt taking bribes from friends in the building industry to do favours for them and telling blatant lies about it?
