I see the Gardaí are to attempt to attract more people of different backgrounds into the Force.

An Garda Síochána has launched a new drive to recruit 300 reserve gardaí among Ireland’s native and immigrant communities in 2017.
The ‘Give Something Back’ campaign aims to attract people of various nationalities, skill sets, ages and backgrounds to join the Garda Reserve and help further diversify its ranks under the current modernisation and renewal programme.

The Garda Reserve at present represents 20 different nationalities and backgrounds, including Iranians, Polish, Nigerians, Italians, Lithuanians, Albanians, Indians and Chinese.

All well and good I'm sure

However while currently the GR cannot on their own initiative arrest people it is only a matter of time until the pressure will be on to extend that Power to them

The situation then arises that people who are not Irish Citizens would be given Powers of Arrest over Irish Citizens
- without the consent of Irish Citizens.

I welcome Law abiding people in the Ranks of the Garda Siochana no matter where they come from

- but the criteria for membership should in my opinion be that they first become Citizens of Ireland by due process

Otherwise they will just not be accepted by Irish People

What do others think?

The one thing we will not see in the AGS is a competency drive.

And definitely not under the current Minister for PR statements, Frances Fitzgerald.

Concerning "giving something back" what about an explanation as to why our towns are rife with crime, & our secondary schools are rife with drugs ?

Can the idiots running the institutional state please explain ?

I think they must be EU nationals.

The nationalities you list are presumably ethnic backgrounds which is of course, a different thing.

We need a much more robust Reserve so that we cant be held hostage again by AGS threatening to strike. Ultimately it could replace AGS.

Would it be as soft on Ireland's flourishing crime "industry" though ?

There is nothing wrong with a Reserve Force

- but the responsibility and power given to membership of the Force is huge

- we need to be careful how we go....

The long-established Special Constabulary in the UK would seem to be a pretty sound model tbh.

I'm not surprised to see the invaders being given military powers over the Native Irish.

...Billyboy and Dim have not reformed their barbaric ways, they have simply found a socially-sanctioned way to indulge these impulses. Indeed, their dishonest and despicable behavior shows that Alex’s society is hardly as virtuous as it may try to appear. Alex, outside of all social support structures, is entirely vulnerable to mistreatment from every angle, be it from his cellmates in prison, elderly men in the library, or badge-carrying police officers. And his inability to fight back makes him a victim of everyone.
