There is no record of derryman at all.
Maybe I am not even mongrel.
Perhaps Alien.

were births deaths and marriage records destroyed in the custom house fire?
Apparently so, I could be mistaken but they were records of the British government of the day where as this is a collection of post independence, births etc and of pre 20th century Church records

Considering they won't be on line until 5:30 pm I'm not surprised.

I think we'll allow you one non Gaelic ancestor yet still claim the title true Gael.

That's includes British, Norman and/or alien.

Genealogy only follows the male line so it is increasingly inaccurate with each passing generation - 50%, 25%, 12.5% and 6.25% after four generations and that's assuming an awful lot of legitimacy from an awful lot of women.

Still, it's a fun thing and the tourists love it.

Don't mind this hair-splitting. If you are Irish, come into the parlour

I'm a faux Gael, myself. But I do have fairly comprehensive records of my family going back to the 1790s in Kildare. Fascinating stuff.

My Irish ancestry goes back so far, part of me still regards the early Christians as uppity blow-ins.
