As Cruyff The Dutch were playing anti-soccer, which they were!
A low point in the history of the WC. Although I've heard that the team of '78 could be quite dirty. Different game back then for shewer.

The '74 team were practical when necessary, a classic from then was there were worried about 1 Bulgarian Striker so 4 lads were assigned to kick him to yellow card level each, apparently once the 4th boot went in, he was no longer up for the match! But in all fairness unlike their 2010 side, those ladz could play, let down though by their great national trait, Arrogance! Their current side is suppposed to be rubbish as well!

In the interests of completeness surely, 64 would be ideal, with 16 groups of 4 and only group winners getting out for the QFs!

The old man used to wax lyrical on about some of their tough as teak defenders, Haan, Krol and their own pocket battleship Rinus Israel, supposed to be a fearsome tackler. They'd another fella called Nanninga who got sent off for laughing at the ref in some WC match.

Great team though. Then there was the black shorts and orange jersey. Classic.

So it seems the only likely location for 2026, is USA/Canada/Mexico, which will be taken from The North American qualification total.
Australia is another possibilty, howsabout it with NZ, 2 different confederations.
It seems there could be other qualification tournaments between the nearly full qulifiers first time out, played between sides from different continents, perhaps in 1 location to decide the final few of the 48 teams also.
As I have said it had to go to 48 teams and even that may not be enough!
