Nope a PGP encrypted file (based on the RSA algorithm) is very hard to break without a LOT of processing power and time. the private key is usually kept on a USB stick and so allows you to take it away and lose the private key should you wish.

There are also offerings like TrueCrypt that allow you to encrypt entire partitions of a drive and have "plausible deniability" as to the number of hidden partitions you have.

For a sophisticated criminal today having their hard drive doesn't mean having the info.

Even if - you'd imagine our government would have the resources to hack a file - the NSA could do it inside 30 seconds...
Yeah they like to make people think that but the reality is quite different. If you use the publicly available AES-256 (which the NSA themselves use) a strong password only a few characters long will take all the computers in the world millions of years to crack.

The problem usually is that strong passwords are too difficult to remember so most people use dictionary words or common numbers.

Thats good to hear they can focus on Michael Lynn then -its only been 3 years or so and still no files to the DPP

They could simply order the handing over of all passwords and then hold people in contempt until they do.

Expect a mass attack of selective amnesia.

Best line of attack on this one if to question the IT department, they are the people that more than likely set it all up.
