This discovery is similar to the discoveries at Tuam. This time the mass grave is at Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul home at Smyllum Park Orphanage in Lanarkshire where a File on 4 investigation has turned up the mass grave. Similar to the sequence of events at Tuam it appears that it is primarily down to relatives of people who may have died at the home and concerned citizens comparing records that led to the discovery.

Bodies of 'hundreds' of children buried in mass grave - BBC News

'The children were all residents of a care home run by Catholic nuns.
At least 400 children are thought to be buried in a section of St Mary's Cemetery in Lanark.

The Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, which ran the home, refused to comment on the findings.

The research by the File on 4 programme in conjunction with the Sunday Post newspaper focused on Smyllum Park Orphanage in Lanark.
It opened in 1864 and provided care for orphans or children from broken homes. It closed in 1981, having looked after 11,600 children.
A burial plot, containing the bodies of a number of children, was uncovered by two former residents of Smyllum in 2003.
Frank Docherty and Jim Kane discovered an overgrown, unmarked section of St Mary's Cemetery during their efforts to reveal physical abuse which they said many former residents had suffered.'

There is a reference to techniques used in the Republic of Ireland and the Tuam discoveries. This particular discovery will apparently feature in the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry which is ongoing.

It will be interesting to see what the response of the Scottish Government, police and forensic services will be as this case closely mirrors that of Tuam.

If the life of even ONE of those children ( Especially in Tuam ) was treated by the Politicians and media in the same way as ANY victim of the IRA we would be hearing a very different story. Not all life is equal.

The PIRA used to put people into these sort of places.

The PIRA used to abuse children and then sent them into Roman Catholic abuse homes.

Alot of the PIRA in Dublin were a bunch of weirdos. Men in their 20s/30s/40s who would hang around with children.

There's another thread started in the last 24 hours that's gotten on Lumpys nerves, hence this thread, which the mods will enbrace.

Abortion is the answer to the awful abuse by the nuns and religious in general. Swings and roundabouts.

You know that's a lie, you just wanted to have an additional line in your post but you still come across as stuid, especially when you support a system that pretends to care for a victim and spends a fortune on high profile digs whilst ignoring Tuam.

The bodies are in THERE, look....just THERE.........

The PIRA would sent children to Catholic abuse homes all over NI. This is a fact.

Just ask the McConville children.

The republican movement was always cheerleaders for the Roman Church.

When they ************************************ the likes of Booby Sands into the ground Roman Priests were their whinging.

Sad to see some people trying to divert this to discussing the sins of PIRA - the first reply FFS.
YOU would never do that, would you. Safe to assume you are leaving this thread now?????

'Research carried out by BBC Radio 4's File on Four programme and the Sunday Post newspaper' (after trawling 15,000 official records):

Bodies of 'hundreds' of children buried in mass grave at Scottish orphanage

The Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul, which ran the Smyllum Park orphanage in Lanarkshire, has previously acknowledged that 158 children were buried in compartments at a nearby cemetery.

The investigation into Smyllum Park orphanage reveals 402 babies, toddlers and children died there between 1864 and when it closed its doors in 1981.

Most of the children sent to live at the orphanage who died were buried in an unmarked mass grave at St Mary's Cemetery.

Buried in an unmarked mass grave at St Mary's cemetery. close to the orphanage -

https://www.sundaypost.com/fp/smyllums-children-lanarkshire-kids-home-scandal-revealed-hundreds-orphans-laid-rest-nuns-mass-grave/

The order of nuns who ran Smyllum – where orphans and children of desperate Catholic families were placed – previously claimed they had records of 120 children who died there and were buried in 158 lairs at a cemetery.

But our research, carried out in association with the BBC, has revealed hundreds of children died at Smyllum – far more than the charity that ran it has admitted.

Isn't FullForward trying to argue that these deaths show that, relatively at least, PIRA did little wrong?

Nothing is surprising about these poisonous religious orders there's still likely thousands of more dead buried yet to be discovered.

That's a pretty obnoxious reaction.
