Of course, anyone who's been looking into this deeply will have read the following, but not everyone has the time to study the details: Solar activity & climate: is the sun causing global warming?

Sometimes you need something relatively short and snappy, like potholer54's excellent films. Everything he says comes from peer-reviewed scientific journals.

The crackpots who deny this have not been swayed by science so far so I see little to suggest that they'll be more convinced. They are best ignored or made fun of.

I'm trying very hard to keep an open mind on this whole AGW debate, but when the pro-AGW side is being loudly cheered on by the likes of SPN, feargach and Clanrickard then you really have to wonder what the true agenda is. Cui bono?

Peer reviewed journals?

It is a statistical fact or not. There is no statistically significant warming since 1995.

Go away you moron.

Excellent video .. calm, evidence-backed, source criticism at its best. Thanks for posting this antidote to the deniers' hysterical claims.

Oil companies benefit hugely from the illusion that there is a debate.

If a lunatic says that you are a cabbage, is there a debate as to whether Sidey is a cabbage or not?

Thanks for the link. Interesting video. When you consider the PR propaganda, there's no doubt that "climate-change denier" is a legitimate moniker for many of the shills and conspiracy 'theorists' out there. Which is not to say there shouldn't be debate. But all the more extreme elements ultimately do is put the hard work of legitimate climate change scientists into better light.

What tripe! Its great to see the AGW community scraping the barrel and become more outrageous in defying logic. So the sun doesn't have 11 year cycles now and its output is constant? This video increases the momentum for the gain in support of the sceptics.

And where did you get your man to narrate?. Real cold dictorial academic Guardian reading dogmatic English accent that belongs to the propaganda short films era frequently heard in 1930s and 1940s UK.

Which is precisely my point.

Lots of people with (in my opinion) very little credibility shouting the odds in this "debate"...on both sides. It's like some sort of religious war, the facts ( whatever they are) are increasingly murky, and while most of the vociferous anti- side seem to be the usual ultra-libertarian crew most of the pro- side have various dodgy agendas of their own, a lot of people who supported the dodgy economics and markets of the last 25 years, people who support quasi-totalitarian Statism, authoritarian Imperialist right-wingers, Corporatists and various other loons.

Ordinary people are becoming increasingly sceptical of the whole thing, not because they are listening to the anti- camp but because the pro- camp are a pretty distasteful bunch themselves.

Is human activity causing warming beyond any natural cycle, is this going to have the catastrophic effects predicted, do we need to be acting now? Possibly, quite possibly. But those pushing this interpretation always seem to be selling cures which involve a massive increase in State power, increased taxation, and increased monitoring and control over the day-to-day activities of ordinary people, and that makes me very suspicious as to the true motives and agendas at play here.

Can you explain why 1995 is a significant date to compare against?
Look at the black line dipping at the right hand side of the graph, that corresponds to the late 90s.

but Phil Jones the main climate scientist has said there's been no statistically significant warming over the last 15 years.

That is not an answer. Why 1995 and not 1994 or 1996?

Just because a graph randomly ends its line in 1995, is no reason at all to use 1995 as your baseline year.

Why not 1945 or 1895? What's the objective reason to choose that particular year?
