At this stage, conservatives have learned not to engage with AOC on Twitter .... she burns ...

AOC asked a banker why the bank should not be liable if it loaned money to a polluting corporation, and got into this twitter exchange ...

Reality tv star tries mocking AOC’s calls for corporate accountability, and it backfires beautifully

This is not the first time. Your opinion is your own, but the lady is a star, very quick thinking. Very few have got the better of her yet, despite the fact she has been singled out for special attack.
I think the conservative right will get great mileage out of Cortez and I think she could split the democratic party into two, corporate liberals and socialists.

America needs a genuine left, it cannot keep going the way it is (a centrist right and a far right party), it will crack.
80% of America is just getting poorer and poorer despite America getting wealthier year after year for almost a decade.

It may be a case that the Dems may have to play it safe and use Biden to remove Trump, but long term they need more and more AOC's.
The demographics of age, race and now the Trump induced gender are all running badly against the GOP, and are almost certainly only going to get worse (Trump gone may negate the gender deficit)
The GOP's numbers with young educated (ie most young people) were sliding anyway, but Trump has turned it into a blood bath for them

That is way over the top. AOC has her issues, but at the moment she is staking out the future of the Democratic Party. Naturally, that is annoying the Blue Dogs and the more conservative Democrats - but what exactly did they achieve for the party, for all their years in charge?

AOC is not even the leftish equivalent of the rank racist Steve King, but you seldom hear him described as "hard right wing", no matter how many times he retweets neo-Nazis. Trump himself is a right-wing conservative, but, to hear the talk, you would think he was a moderate.

(I regard the centre of American politics to be defined by Senators like Joe Manchin (D) and Susan Collins (R) who are to the right of AOC, but equally as far to the left of Trump.)

Occasio-Cortez's favoured policies are to help the disadvantaged, and protect the environment - it is amazing that it is difficult for conservatives to find money for that, when they were so quick to hand out tax breaks to banks and corporations.

I think that there will be such a split, but the 2 sides will be corporate liberals, and progressives.

Many socialists don't buy into the stuff that progressives advocate.

The US does have genuine leftist parties already, but nobody is interested in them.

We're at the point where few Americans can think outside a Republican v Democrat divide.

I fear that things will only get worse within the US if "the young" buy into the absolute BS that the likes of AOC are advocating.

Or that there were so many other eejits around who would be capable of taking them seriously?
The funny thing about such satirical websites is that many people will accept the story at face value because it does sound like stuff that she would say.

The same was true when that fake information was being shared about Trump asking for "the Gorilla channel" to be available in the White House. It was a prank but sounded believable.

Ocasio-Cortez floated the idea of taxing incomes over $10 million at 70%. That would target ~18,000 people. Most of these people's income is in the form of capital gains that would be exempt from a 70% tax on salary incomes. It would thus yield about $50 billion annually.

If in "incomes" she includes capital gains, then she needs to know that capital gains are taxed only when they are “realized”, and people behave according to the prevailing tax laws. There is a strong negative relationship between the tax rate on capital gains and realisations; a 70% rate would drastically reduce federal revenue from capital gains. Experts generally agree that 29% is optimal.

Ocasio-Cortez is talking about funding major green initiatives among other things with her tax proposal. Bear in mind that Jill Stein proposed a "Green New Deal" for clean energy initiatives and public jobs costing between $700 billion and $1 trillion per year, which is a grab of up to a colossal 4 percent of GDP. AOC's more wide-ranging promises are based on projected income of a paltry $50 billion minus capital gains, and not much more with them.

When Jill Stein is the sensible adult in the room, you know you're in la-la land. AOC is gold dust for Trump. The more her witterings are amplified by starry-eyed Democrat fanboys, the harder it gets for sensible 2020 candidates to emerge. Let's hear more chat of how vibrant and brilliant and genius AOC is , please!

Exactly.

She's the sort of loon that will turn Democrat voters off from voting at all. Which would be great for Trump. Even if she doesn't get the nomination the Republicans will use her existence as evidence that the Democrats are considering the things that she stands for.

As for AOC herself, shouldn't she be in a Green Party? Or has she worked out that there is no alternative other than to be in 1 of the 2 big parties?

Has anyone told the sun that it will have to provide 1 less hour of sunshine?
Jesus wept, it's a piss take, made up, she never said this, or anything remotely like it.
It is astonishing that normally intelligent people can suspend that intelligence if something aligns with their views.
In your case you think AOC is an airhead dingbat, so you swallow whole garbage like this, same as alt right twats swallow outrageous stuff because they so want it to be true, they don't bother checking, or even thinking.

Did I say that she did say this?

AOC is an airhead dingbat. Yet another believer in the magic money tree.

You mean the "magic money tree" of money taken by corporations and banks, donated by Trump and the GOP?

AOC has a reasonable method of funding her measures - raise taxes.

Trump and the GOP blew up the deficit by giving an unfunded tax cut they lied claimed would be "pay for itself".

That is true. It seems strange to remember that attitudes which are now considered very left wing were standard Democratic positions in the era before Clinton. The abandonment of working class people by the Dems was so gradual that the reality took a long time to become obvious.

I agree ... the people who are attacking AOC are all the usual airheads with nothing but empty and bog-standard flatulence ...

... the lady herself has stood her ground admirably, and has seen off most the ranters.

The Democrats did not so much desert working class people as adopt the prevailing ethic that free markets were intrinsically good, and any wealth distribution of a "free market" had the force of a religious fatwah.

It was taken 20 years for them to realise that there is no such thing as a real "free market", and the "deregulated" free market desired by Republicans was one slanted in favour of the rich, with no safety net for the less well off. The result has been the immiseration of the middle class. However, free market dogma is no entrenched in the media, in politics and even in the courts, that it is a struggle to argue against.

A free market is indeed desirable, but unless regulated to a degree, it inevitably turns into a monopoly or a cartel.

I think the socialists will have no problem adopting progressiveism , if you listen to Bernies declaration to run for president the last time its all but identical to this time except he replaced "the people of America" with "every ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation", a clear signal that he is "Woke".
