Ardoyne Residents - Orange Order deal collapses

A proposed deal to end a long-running dispute between the Orange Order and a nationalist residents group in north Belfast has collapsed. Talks facilitators said that "despite some positive feedback", they were unable to find agreement at this time.

The deal would have meant an Orange parade, prevented from returning to Ligoniel in 2013, would have been completed on Friday morning. A loyalist protest camp at Twaddell Avenue would then have been dismantled.

On Tuesday, talks facilitators, Rev Harold Good and Jim Roddy, said: "Despite some positive feedback on our ideas, we have been unable to achieve agreement for a resolution at this moment in time."

In response, the County Grand Lodge of Belfast said it "very much regrets the initiative to resolve the Crumlin Road impasse did not succeed".

Twaddell: Ardoyne residents group and Orange Order deal collapses - BBC News

I'm going to go out on a limb here and surmise some possible reasons the proposed deal collapsed:

1. Because Arnold Foster was recently appointed leader of the Undemocratic Partitionist Party (DUP), and partition is safe for the foreseeable, Loyalist's are under the illusion that Unionist hegemony is still operative, and that they can continue to march wherever they choose (especially the Queen's highway as it's the Queens), and like back in the good old days of Unionist domination, they don't need to negotiate with the taigs to walk all over them.

2. The working and tax-paying residents of Twaddell (apparently a small minority) enjoy footing the bill for policing the tasteful and cultured Twaddell Avenue protest camp, which hit a whopping £18.5 million per annum back in 2015, and enjoy the nightly, God-awful racket. Sorry, spirit lifting harmonies made by the plethora of raging Loyalist blood and thunder bands stomping up and down their street. Sorry, "Avenue". The area's got class.

3. The fact that the combined average IQ level of the entire Orange Order fails to reach double figures (eg. BtB) is in no way related to this abysmal failure to finally see sense, compromise, and accept a deal to end what is an embarrassing and ongoing debacle.

It is now obvious to all social commentator's that those IRA supporting fenians without father's who live in Ardoyne, who hate all that is Loyal and Orange, and who have made life a living hell for all North Belfast subscriber's to sectarian bigotry by objecting to it, are wholly to blame.

Conclusion: It's all themun's fault. So it is.

The oo had a golden opportunity to get themselves off the hook at Ardoyne this Friday morning despite the deep reservations of local fatherless residents.
They hadn't the nous to see it unfortunately.

How long has this shenanigans been going on for now? It seems like an eternity, and with this news today, no end in sight. People in authority within Unionism and Republicanism should step in and start knocking heads together, as it's gone beyond the joke. So it has.

You might have had a good thread if you didn't call the leader of the DUP, 'Arnold' or engage on name calling at the end. It achieves the nothing.

Ardoyne residents have been opposing Orange marches since the 70s.
They used to go down past Holy Cross church on the Crumlin in those days so their route isn't as traditional as they would have you believe.

Well if she wasnt for Fermanagh you would have to suspect that she was really a "transsexual" he.

Two lodges in favour, one opposed. So the OO chick out and let the lowest common denominator dictate to the majority. They need to show more leadership than that or they will decline even further.

Nothing to say about the threats from the other residents group?

There's a surprise.

From my perspective the Order needs to get this dispute ended as quickly as possible.

If you think that this is working out well for the order could you explain your rational.

It achieves "the nothing"? Your post achieves nothing other than to say you're devoid of humour. If you've got nothing to contribute, please desist with your non-contributions.

Apparently when thon George Chittick isn't at Twaddle denouncing learners of the Irish language as Republican conspirators, his second favourite pastime is twerking to jungle music. Naked.

No surprise that you see this in such a jaundiced way, but this elementary stuff.
There were opponents on both sides, but the more reasonable majority on both sides supported the plan. The proposed agreement fell down because the OO rejected it rather than create a split in their ranks. CARA were prepared to take the risk in the interests of a settlement. The OO were not.

It's quite clear the OO take their orders from the UDA in north Belfast.

UPRG says no so the OO say no. Simples.
