Cyprus faces bailout row over fears of 'haircuts' for investors

Our mistakes do not look like being replicated in the cypriot bailout - depositors and bondholders look like being scalped - if you substitute russian banks for german banks there is model there fro us to seek out- as regards gas reserves it has been debated elsewhere but we gave ours away. proposals are seen as victory for IMF part of troika

I wonder would it be any different if the Cypriot government introduced a blanket bank guarantee...

Well its certainly no longer cool to be Irish. Its probably a good thing, it may get rid of that Celtic Tiger arrogance.

Colm McCarthy in last weekend's Sindo suggested watching the Cyprus situation.

According to him foreign deposits, rather than long term bonds, make up practically all the liabilities in insolvent Cypriot banks.
Talk of haircuts to those depositors is the rumour.

Well...if the Russian banks get asked to do burden sharing....the it is their own fault.....

They were not bribing the right politicians iin the right power centre.....get with the program....and learn from the Anglo Bondholders.

Cypriot bailout may burn bondholders - European Economic News | EU Budgets, Trends & Spending | Irish Tim - Thu, Mar 14, 2013

looks like confirmation that the cypriots will be cooking depositors and bondholders

"There is growing expectation that losses may be imposed on senior bank bondholders as part of the imminent Cypriot bailout, despite a similar option being withheld from Ireland as part of the €64 billion Irish rescue package. Forcing bank bondholders to take a write-down on their debt is under active consideration by euro zone officials, according to a well-placed euro zone source. Depositors in Cypriot banks may also suffer writedowns."

So we can use this as leverage to get concessions in other areas. This is good news!

He'll never get a job at Paypal, which is probably a blessing by the sound of it. But then neither will I since I have made made similar slips in the past. Most of us are human after all, the exceptions are mainly the wingnuts on P.ie.
