People from the former West Germany often refer to The Ossies (former East Germans) as still having the wall in their minds.
As we in The Republic are approaching 100 years of 'independence' have we put our colonial past behind us at all?
I was listening to Dr. Ciara Kelly on Dinny's Newstalk and BTW I regard her outside of health issues as generally an absolutely diabolical broadcaster and she said 2 things 1 on the water tax (now Dinny pays the bills on that station) was the reluctance of some of us to paying down to our colonised mindset (I don't know how anybody could surmise that bull shyza) and the other unrelated thing, was, she cannot remember any time when Irish Political leaders stood up for us abroad, she is actually corect in that one. Indeed the supplicant nature of our political class on the international stage is a prime example of the colonised mindset, is it not?
Also paying the public service through the roof at everyone else's expense indicates it.
The sleeveen way employers get away with bollex acting towards employees in the BMW area and the toleration of it is another.

Those are terrible things that your are saying.

While Britain still has direct control of so much of the island and its population then to all intents and purposes it still exercises control over the entire island, its people and its economy.

(so as to save anyone else the trouble of saying it.)

I'd say The Republic is far more of an EU/Germanic Colony than a British Colony today and why because our colonised mindset has allowed it to be so.

Our independence was always a weak thing.

We didn't have economic sovereignty.

Briefly with the punt?

But I'm taking more about the mindset of our people.

Are you saying people actually think the horrible legacy of it isn't pretty obvious to see?

We had it briefly then signed it over to the EU and now the Germans are our masters.

No it was allowed to happen because 3 parties who trace their origin back to the fight for independence sold us down the river.

Has any country in the 20th century successfully emerged from a colonised past, save the Nazi occupied countries, which admittedly was very bad for about 5 years?
Finland? Massive alcoholism rates though!

Yes the supplicant nature of the Irish politcal class and their willingness to lower the national underpants on our behalf is part of it!

Lower their pants? They took it up the swiss bareback and then bragged it was the right thing to do.

The Brits are stuck with the North.
Believe me, they would love to be over their colonial past.
