Sinn Féin Education spokesperson Senator Pearse Doherty has described the cuts announced today in support for special educational needs teachers as unjustifiable. Senator Doherty said the special educational needs of children with learning difficulties cannot be met in mainstream classrooms as has been claimed by a Department spokesperson

Tis really is disgraceful... I've tried and tried and tried to stop directly attacking the Government because I don't believe all this abuse or Zanu-FF nonsense makes for good debate, and frankly only re-directs peoples focus on the problems we face...

But I finally cracked hearing this on the radio this morning... screaming a variety of obscenities to myself in the car...

And juxtoposed against a simpering Willie O Dea refusing to acknowledge any fault for our economic mess, while saying we "have to re-capitalise the banks"

Absolutely effing disgraceful

Batt is one evil bastar%. This govt. is truly despicable, we have a Minister for Finance, who is enthrall to Power and FF, even though God only knows, what they did with the money, they collected to help his dying father. A minister for Health, that can't come up with 10 million for a cervical cancer jab, that will save approx. 80 lives a year, while flying out with friends and family to Florida to get 400 dollar haircuts at taxpayers expenses, who uses the Govt. jet to travel to open friends's businesses. They are

FF/Greens cutbacks target children with learning disabilities

The Department of Education is to cut special teacher support for over 500 primary school children with learning disabilities.
In all, 128 special teaching posts will be lost, affecting 534 children in 119 schools across the country.
The INTO has called it 'an outrageous dismantling of the special education infrastructure', committed only for financial reasons.

Following on form their disgraceful decision not to innoculate children against cervical cancer, the government has now decided to make children with learning disabilities pay for the economic meltdown

Disgraceful.

I have members of my family on the AS Spectrum and this is disgusting.............................

The Government should scrap funding for that crap PC School Model "Educate Together" which is a waste of money and a drain on our financial resources!

More money should be invested in these already under-funded services!

This is Brian Cowen's fault.

His historical mismanagement of the economy means we do not have the resources to fund these services.

We must not get away from this absolute truth.

Nope it's merely the logic of PD ideology, whether it's Brian Cowen, Mary Harney or Richard Bruton. We must not get away from that absolute truth.

This justifies my arguement in the previous thread against the Educate Together School Model.

Why doesn't the government just scrap funding for ET, I went to a secular education school in the UK and the standards of learning are absolutely crap compared to religious ethos schools! British families deliberatley lie about their beliefs to get their kids into the local CoE or RC High School

The funding that ET get should be diverted into supporting disabled and Autistic Spectrum Children, It pisses me off that a failed educational model is being favoured over children whom need as much support as they possibly can get...................... they were underfunded before and now will be worse off!

This is a disgrace, they just do not give a sh*t about anyone outside of their cosy little circle. As they desperately try to save their friends at Anglo, they are cutting education.

Educate Together is a worthy enterprise and you have absolutely no evidence of lower educational standards there. Stop attempting to derail this thread. Start another one if you have a difficulty!

Agreed with all: it is a great shame that we have a a government who will do this, targeting those who cannot defend themselves.

See below for why it doesn't.

In other words, you are generalising from one secular school to all secular schools.

Do you know what a logical fallacy is?
British families deliberatley lie about their beliefs to get their kids into the local CoE or RC High School
  1. You mention that the schools that families are eager to get their children into are local schools.
  2. Families will naturally try to get their children into local schools.
  3. If there aren't enough places in local schools, parents will try to get their children into them first.
The funding that ET get should be diverted into supporting disabled and Autistic Spectrum Children, It pisses me off that a failed educational model is being favoured over children whom need as much support as they possibly can get...................... they were underfunded before and now will be worse off!
What was the situation for disabled and Autistic Spectrum children in 1969?

Another shocking decision by this government on Education.
Hitting some of the most vulnerable people in our society.
I just listened to Batt O'Keefe on the news at one, sickening listening to him, talking about returning children to mainstream classes as its the best way etc. Reminded me of the previous ministers stance on ABA for autism.

You can look at Nearys pay off etc but whats more galling is the Department of Education and Science is willing to pay the full capitation for teachers in Blackrock, Terenure, Clongowes etc no questions asked, yet at the same time cut the funding to children with special needs.
Its disgusting!

Shame.Shame on them.

Words fail me. Shame on them to target children with mild general learning disability. Was there nowhere else to save the few Bob?Shame on you Batty .O' K.

You told their mums and or dads NOT to send them to a special school. They listened to you. Then you pull the support from them.Unmercifully.

Do you or any of yours have special needs?

So angry. Unbelievable.Shame. Cant describe how I feel.
