Looks like we're heading back to the polls. But in an unlikely way, as Theresa May is seeking a snap election for the 8th June 2017.

Dust off yer posters and loudhailers, get the old soapbox out of the attic, it looks like it is on!

Questions: Can SF repeat their assembly success, or can the DUP reverse the trend?
Will there be a unionist unity pact this time around?
Can Long take back East Belfast?

Three will be another pact in East Belfast. The DUP cannot afford to lose to Long. Hopefully it's not the BFG (bloody fool Gavin) again

Quite a clever move by May.

But, sweet suffering Christ, we will have to endure those hideous election posters again....
Not that sure that it is, tbh. A sizeable chunk of the Tory party faithful would be remain. The behaviour of the leave section since their victory could be viewed as unpalatable by a lot of that demographic.

There will be a pact, but can still see UUP voters pushing Long over the winning line. More intriguing will be Fermanagh-South Tyrone: will the SDLP still run, or will a greater nationalist turnout overturn the UUP majority?

You can be sure that the sdlp will run in fst. That will all come down to turnout.

Interesting move from the Mod team.
??

What is odd is you choose French for you title considering the French are in the middle of an election and you're talking now about the proposed British election.

Must say May is a surprise with this news. She sounds like a school marm trying to get everybody in order. It just might work.

There'll be plenty of bluebirds over the white cliffs of dover and so on and so forth I should imagine.

The Foreign Secretary will put his foot in it repeatedly which will allow Frau May to cashier him to the backbenches and a berth at the Telegraph or Spectator finally ... Norman Tebbitt will be found in his pyjamas in Brick Lane muttering about being in Berlin by Christmas.

The Labour Party will self-importantly implode as it does with monotonous regularity. The Lib Dems will pick up Labour seats and the odd Tory seat on a pro-Europe ticket despite them being in no way, shape or form coherent in terms of being a partner even as a minority in government.

Actually it looks like a sort of Dad's Army election with Theresa as Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson being played dreamily by the Lib Dems and the Labour Party looking more and more like Private Godfrey in search of an urgent bush and hoping that the war will wait while he has a tinkle.

No - it's a line from "les Miserables" afaik. A call to arms, if you like. The question I was raising was that it was moved from the NI forum - because my OP was framed for that forum.

And the more they insist on running in FST, the more their own base will desert them...
I don't know about that. Eastwood seems to have got off to a good start. They also didn't mess about with the whip in BCC last week - a good thing imo, as there are too many SDLP people who are looking out for their own dungheaps. What they need to do, and I think they recognise this, is forget about their "base" and try to attract younger voters. They'll do this by offering a coherent nationalist alternative to SF.

All that said, FST will depend entirely on who will run for SF, whether there is a unionist pact this time around (Nesbitt dismissed this having had his fingers burnt first time, and Swann seems to have set his stall against it) and good old fashioned turnout.

Question

Will the GE be another sectarian headcount like the recent Assembly election with both sectarian camps whipping up support on the basis of 'our crowd and theirs'.

Eh? Of course it will. There are no other type of elections here.

Eh, I wasn't aware it was a sectarian headcount the last time. Run along now. In fairness, you did keep your post below the standard "socialist" three pages.
