An investigation is under way. The FT reported it earlier but the story was behind paywall.
The BBC is now reporting the story.

Swedish police probe 'cover up of migrant sex assaults' - BBC News
Police in the Swedish capital Stockholm have launched an internal investigation into accusations that the force covered up widespread sexual assaults by mostly migrant youths at a music festival. In a case echoing recent attacks in Cologne, a group of men reportedly groped girls at the We Are Sthlm event.

Police ejected 200 people from the site in August but did not mention assaults in their reports to the press. Sweden was the first country to offer permanent residence to Syrian refugees.
Very alarming passage in the BBC report.
According to Peter Agren, who led the police operation at the festival this summer, the controversy over welcoming refugees and migrants to the country may have contributed to a reluctance to publicise the issue."Sometimes we do not really say how things are because we believe it may play into the hands of the Sweden Democrats," Mr Agren told Dagens Nyheter, referring to Sweden's right-wing anti-immigration party.
Below from a Swedish media source today put up on twitter.
According to Swedish media, “hordes” of young men harassed and groped young women at a youth festival and concert in central Stockholm’s Kungsträdgården last August. Those attacks were reported to police who, according to Nyheter Idag‎, were willing to talk to prominent daily Dagens Nyheter. Unfortunately for the victims, the paper deliberately covered up the story in an effort to avoid triggering an anti-migrant backlash

Stefan Lofven, Sweden's centre-left prime minister, called the incident "a double betrayal" for the women assaulted

Worrying quote alright if accurate , he basically admits to political policing and covering up the true facts in case they might help an opposition political party , surely it is not up to police to decide who they want to make look good politically.

Just awesome. Nyheter Idag put their article up around 16 pm accusing Dagens Nyheter from cover-up, and at 19:15 Dagens Nyheter has their own article up about the police and the concert organizer covering it up, AND another article answering to the accusations in NI article.

DN got tipped in August, but by their own account wouldn't print it because they couldn't verify the happenings from the police.

Apparently they have now succeeded in their verifying during the three short hours that took place between the NI article accusing DN and the DN article accusing the police.

It's quite condemning, the NI article, in how the named DN reporter suddenly appeared to lose all her interest to the case after hearing of the ethnicity of the perps.

During the height of the refugee crisis a few months ago, Sweden was often cited on the Joe Duffy show as a country to aspire to on immigration and refugees.

Astonishing allegations.

The political correctness brigade are simply out of control.
They will obviously stop at nothing to enforce their agenda and that includes putting their fellow citizens at incredible risk.

Bears all the hallmarks of a cult.

Ha Ha-you'd have to believe in the tooth fairy not to think the same thing wouldn't/hasn't happened here. Last Tuesdays Irish Timer made zero mention of Cologne despite it being covered by BBC on Monday.Shameful. As if to add idiocy to insult, today's paper carries a clownish column from the paper's man in Berlin claiming "circumstances rather than ideology"was to blame for delay in reporting.Industrial strength BS anyway but rendered doubly so by this news.I should stress he was talking about papers other than his own so this was not a mea culpa. The twonk somehow contorted the article into an indictment of the "populist demagogues" of Pegida. What a propagandist. Paper of record my hoop

Nothing to do with political correctness....this is propaganda.

The British are politically correct, just a way of saying polite, really, no winners or losers, no discrimination, that sort of thing. Misinforming the population because it doesn't suit a political agenda is far more sinister. It's no surprise that the Nazis had a formal ministry of propaganda.

More from the Guardian article. It talks about a new phenomenon to these attacks occuring in europe. It mirrors exactly what the head of police in Finland described occured there on NYE. And then of course same style attacks in Cologne and other German cities.

And to think officials thought it better to sweep it under the carpert, keep it hush, hush.
It took over a week for Germany to report their attacks and then RTÉ Six One two days after the BBC and CH4. Very sinister.

Swedish police accused of covering up sex attacks by refugees at music festival | World news | The Guardian
During the 2014 festival, organisers picked up on rumours of a new phenomenon, said Roger Ticoalu, head of events at the Stockholm city administration.
"It was a modus operandi that we had never seen before: large groups of young men who surround girls and molest them,” Ticoalu said. “In the cases where we were able to apprehend suspects, they were with a foreign background, newly arrived refugees aged 17-20, who had come to Sweden without their families."

Now upto 500 attacks in Cologne alone. And to think the initial police reports spoke of a "largely peaceful celebrations."Just wow.
Easy to see why totalitarian states seek to shut-down the internet. Can't be sure of the extent of these cover-ups but it's official-what we're being told on this issue is not to be trusted

Luckily that sort of thing could never happen here...
Ireland isn't the type of country where sex abuse could get covered up from a toxic mix of existing power structures not wanting to hear about it and a sense that it couldn't possibly be true because that would reflect badly on a particular group

Oh bloody hell it's an absurd comedy now: the Swedish police has just made a breakthough in the Olof Palme assassination investigation and found DNA on the murder weapon:

Leif GW Persson: DNA-träff på misstänkt Palmevapen | Nyheter | Expressen

(for the uninitiated we wish to inform that Olof Palme was the Prime Minister of Sweden who got assassinated in February 1986 by an unknown assailant and it's a huge thing in the Nordic Countries)

So just hang in there, sex crime victims, Polisen will be on your case shortly.
