This might seem like a complete lie to people from the north as wages are low and the prices dont appear cheap, but this could be another blow for the souths economy as the exchange rate and lower prices could continue to attract cross border shopping even after a tax hike.

Belfast one of the least expensive places in the world - Local & National, News - Belfasttelegraph.co.uk

London 17th most expensive on list
Dublin 42nd on the list.
Belfast 182nd on list.

The Belfast Telegraph has spun this as a totally positive thing but it seems to ignore the elephant in the room, there is a direct link between crap cities and cheap cities!

Hi now, they did build the Titanic in Belfast I'll have you know!

Just a shame the incompetence of the ship builders caused it to sink! Which always makes me wonder why people in Belfast are so keen to celebrate being the city that built it.

We're known for three things in Belfast:

The Titanic - which sunk
George Best - an alcoholic wifebeater
The Troubles - when we killed each other for 40 years

No wonder the tourists flock here!

When the protestants were building the ship, the catholics were building an iceberg.

There's that one nice pub across the road from the Europa. The one with the booths. Got totally hammered there one night.

Other than that, it's a city with no centrepiece, no attraction of note. The pair of disused cranes? Oh please.

Now now, the centre piece is the Monarch who reigned during the famine.
Her statue is in city hall in the centre of the city.
Shes exactly why people come to Belfast and it's so succesful, After all only a million or so died and much more fled, what a great job she done!

...Oh ! And she has Victoria square named after her, various streets, the train station, the hospital, the college, the university and various schools, a park, a cemetery...........

Reminds me of Dublin a bit, a version of Dublin with fk*c all going on and no one in a hurry to go anywhere.

And by the way, try going to a supermarket and filling your trolley in Niamey or Dakar.
Those places are not cheap.
You could live like the locals if you want, but then again you could sleep on the streets of Belfast and eat in the Sally Army.

Compare like with like.

Are you surprised? Her reign seen Belfast become one of the industrial centres of the world. The city grew exponentially.

But st333ve was saying more expensive city = better city. If so that list is very odd. The greatest city in the world is in freaking Angola apparently according to st333ves rational.

I personally find some of the cheapest cities are the best, esp in Eastern Europe.

Belfast may be cheap but it does have a certain charm about it... maybe it's an acquired taste, once you get to know it you can focus on the wee gems and kind of blank out all the sh*tty parts. But, on first sight.. Dublin looks like some sort of utopian paradise in comparison.

The reason it's cheap is theres a lot of poverty and deprived areas and very little industry.

The list is only odd if you believe the Belfast Telegraph story that it measures how expensive cities are. It fact the list measures how expensive cities are for expatriates. In other words, how much you would have to spend to have the same standard of living as when you were at home.

Don't forget The Adams family, an important source of 'entertainment'. Oh, aye, and the Robinsons.
