BREAKING: Bernie To Endorse Hillary On Tuesday

CBS News New York reports:

Bernie Sanders will finally give his stamp of approval to Hillary Clinton. CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett reported the Vermont senator will endorse Clinton next Tuesday in New Hampshire and bring the Democratic Party together before Donald Trump and Republicans meet for their convention.

My comments:

1) about time

2) nice timing to try and undercut trump and the republicans!

New Hampshire is a good place to do it. It was in the town of Unity, New Hampshire that Hillary endorsed Obama in 2008. Both candidates received the exact same number of votes in that primary.

New Hampshire was home to one of Sanders biggest victories and will be a crucial state for both candidates in November.

Clinton's lining her surrogates up well.

Deploy Sanders and Warren in states with small populations and large student populations to shore up the liberal base (the likes of NH, Iowa etc). Deploy Biden (who's hitting the stump with her for the first time this afternoon) in working class rust belt areas like PA and Ohio. Deploy Obama in states which most closely match his 2008 coalition (e.g. North Carolina). Add Bill into the mix in states like Virginia or even Georgia and you've got a formidable mix of surrogates really well placed to tap into specific constituencies.

True Sanders supporters are not going to vote for corrupt Corporatist Clinton.

They'll go Johnson or Stein before Clinton.

Bullied by the Democrat Party top brass into endorsing a woman who shares none of his political values.

I wonder will the Republican establishment begin coercing proper conservatives like Ted Cruz to jump on the Trump wagon as election time draws nearer.

How was he bullied? Bernie always said he'd support HRC if she won the primary but he really dragged his feet before doing so. The DNC would have much preferred he had endorsed her much earlier than now.

Apparently, then, there are only 15% of Sanders' supporters who are "true".

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/07/08/bernie-sanders-voters-will-support-hillary-clinton-en-masse-while-holding-their-noses/

The vast, vast majority of those who supported Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primary will support Hillary Clinton in the general election, another new poll confirms. The Pew poll shows 85 percent of Sanders backers will support Clinton, while just 9 percent say they'll back Donald Trump. That's a significantly faster rallying effect than Democrats saw after their drawn-out primary in 2008.

This owes something to the sheer odiousness of Donald Trump, but Hillary Clinton will not complain if the Republicans made a lousy choice for her opponent.

Bernie tried hard to do some bullying of his own, like advocating Elizabeth Warren as VP choice.

I think he blew it.

Polls are showing his supporters have rallied to Clinton faster than her supporters rallied to Obama in '08.

So he has no real followers to offer any more - his support for Clinton is a busted flush. It is hardly worthy of note.

13 July 2016: Sanders endorses - and burns.

As Maureen Dowd (in the fiercely anti-Trump NYT) put it in her article The Clinton Contamination 4 days ago:
"the Clintons ... are staying true to their reputation as the Tom and Daisy Buchanan of American politics. Their vast carelessness drags down everyone around them, but they persevere, and even thrive.
"In a mere 11 days, arrogant, selfish actions by the Clintons contaminated three of the purest brands in Washington — Barack Obama, James Comey [FBI] and [Attorney General] Loretta Lynch — and jeopardized the futures of Hillary’s most loyal aides."

The Clintons' sulphurous proximity sends all forms of "purity" up in smoke. The Sanders Movement is just the latest sizzle.
