I.F.S. Asset Managers: Bertie Ahern to become Chairman of the International Forestry Fund

Dublin / Zurich: The International Forestry Fund - a joint venture of the I.F.S. Asset Managers Ltd and Helvetia Wealth AG of Switzerland - today announced that the former Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern will become Chairman of the fund as of January 1, 2010.

The International Forestry Fund, created in March 2009, is offering the opportunity of direct forestry investment to institutional investors. The Fund invests in forestry in Ireland, the UK, and Central America [...]

The fund buys existing forests, or land which is then afforested. Key to its strategy is that it will acquire the title to all properties for the benefit and protection of its investors [...]

Commenting on today's announcement Bertie Ahern said: "I am delighted and honoured to be joining the International Forestry Fund at this very exciting time for this sector. The stewardship and use of forests and forest lands in a way that is productive and progressive is vitally important today and for future generations [...]

The Irish Forestry Funds have a track record spanning 13 years delivering an average 9% p.a. return for their investors.

"The idea of creating the International Forestry Fund was born after the original Irish Forestry Funds could not accept further investments simply because the availability of suitable land for forestation in Ireland is finite", explained Trevor McHugh. "We have spent a number of years establishing the necessary relationships required to launch a Forestry Fund of this nature and are delighted to have engaged with Helvetia Wealth AG from Switzerland who are the Fund Managers to the International Forestry Fund"

About Bertie Ahern:

Bertie Ahern is the first person since 1944 to be elected prime minister of Ireland on three successive occasions. At each step, he laid the foundation for a renewed Ireland that will benefit future generations of Irish. Mr Ahern implemented bold economic initiatives that included corporate tax incentives and education reform. His efforts laid out a welcome mat for international corporations, making Ireland an attractive location for foreign companies which drove job creation for over a decade.
Did Eoghan Harris write that bio for the press release?

Will be interesting to see what land they snap up in Ireland now and at what price...

Everything Bertie touches fails. Let's see how many trees he can destroy. Maybe it'll outnumber the lives he's destroyed here at home.

I've seen this mentioned before, couldn't believe my eyes. No body in their right mind would seriously allow Bertie Ahern take charge over forestry. What experience has he got in forestry to become a chairman, its utter rubbish.

This is all Bertie's come back plan, silly little Spar ads, a book, a tv interview of sob stories, news of taking on such a heart felt role in forestry and more to follow.

Don't be fooled by this swindler, as this swindler has the art of deception perfected.

The swindler is up to something.

Just read the press release, it failed to mention how he stood down due to evidence of corruption on his part and more than likely that fact he knew Ireland was faced with trouble ahead, it also failed to mention he is pretty much the most hated man in Ireland.

As he was incapable of seeing the woods fron the trees while he was Taoiseach then I doubt he will do any better in his latest venture.

At least he will be openly engaged in a profit making exercise.

Brown envelopes are made from trees IIRC?

The Chairman of I.F.S. Asset Managers is none other than Richard Hoare, former Managing Director of Bank of Ireland Finance Ltd

I wish he would go away, I am sick to death hearing about him, he is already living it up on cusy perks and pensions, tv endorsements, book advances, dinner invitations, tv interviews and now this. It's like he is rubbing our face in it, showing us how he can still get along fine even though we found him to be more corrupt than the word corrupt.

Everyday I find more and more reasons to remind myself why I shouldn't be here. It's hard to take in all the crap that's coming out lately, almost immune to the crap now.

There's a whole thread on this Helvetia Wealth crowd on askaboutmoney.com and they sound a bit dodgy.

Is this the same Hoare who headed up Maguire and Patterson, the matches people, during the eighties. I know that a (Hoare) chap came from Bank of Ireland to M&P and then moved back to BOI in the early nineties. I'm just can't remember his first name, but 'Richard' seems to ring a bell. Wouldn't it be funny if it was the same person. Guess where the lovely forests would end up?

good to see that his part time job as a TD doesnt impact on his other more important jobs such as this forestry job and his 'journalism'.

Maybe he'll catch dutch elm disease.......
It affect some species of elm more than others.

Bertie is more in the Slippery Elm (Ulmus fulva) category and I believe it has not been affected by the disease.:D:D:D
