The right to poke an iphone up a womans dress and to capture on film what the camera sees is apparently in line with the Magna Carta. A bill to outlaw this practice which is quite popular with those who are IT literate failed today when a 71 year old MP named Chope objected to its reading.

This guy should be brought up to the whips office and given a talking to. However he is one of those fruit cakes who thinks Brexit is wonderful. He has also objected to Safeguarding wild animals in circuses, Protecting police dogs from being stabbed, National standards for taxi licences, Banning fraudulent wearing of medals & Giving 6th formers better career advice.

He was also given a knighthood as reward for 'public service.' Maybe Bob Geldof should hand back his as protest.

To be clear though: he doesn’t like upskirt phots or violence against police animals. He just dislikes private member bills and thinks all acts of Parliament should be debated.

He is a general loon though.

Now all we need is for the Female Underwear Restrictions Act to pass and it will be a golden age for upskirt artists in the UK.

He seems to be a sortof offline-troll when it comes to fillibustering bills, including the bill to pardon Alan Turing posthumously.

A member who dislikes private members bills about protecting people's privates. Yep that's the way to go in the post Brexit world. He'll increase his majority in the next election, no doubt!

Seemingly he didn't even know what upskirting was, and when it was explained to him (after the vote) agreed he didn't really approve.

Interesting to have it confirmed that members of Her Majesty's Parliament vote on stuff without having a clue what it is, though.

Gives me simply enormous hope for the various Brexit votes to come.

Last year Chope proposed 47 private member’s’ bills of his own.

"To be clear" to whom? Do you know him? I hadn't even heard of the eejit and I follow British politics (being in part of Ireland where they control sort of goes with the territory - excuse the pun).

Now what's your excuse, "to be clear", to let you tell us that he doesn't like the old up skirt crimes or violence against unicorns?

It appears things like this are his party piece.

What I found strange was that the police declined to prosecute the invasion of privacy of one lady because they didn't think it would count unless she had been going commando.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-44496427

Ms Martin said she remained "positive and hopeful" about the bill and had arranged a meeting to discuss it further with Sir Christopher.
She started the campaign to change the law after two men took a picture up her skirt while she was at a concert in London's Hyde Park last July.
Police said they were unable to prosecute as the picture was not graphic enough because she was wearing underwear.
Apparently it is Friday Private Member Bills he has issues with -

Sir Christopher is a leading member of a group of backbench Conservatives who make a practice of ensuring that what they see as well-meaning but flabby legislation is not lazily plopped on to the statute book by a few MPs on a poorly attended Friday sitting.

And after all this is a bill to create a new criminal offence, for which people can go to jail.

So, however worthy the cause, he insists on proper, extensive scrutiny, and he has spent most Commons Fridays for the last 20 years doing just that.
It is illegal in Scotland since 2010 as they broadened the definition of Voyeurism.

Presumably Kilt wearers would also be Protected?

You can see the perve starting a bend here, the camera was in his left hand:

As the Queen goes commando, it is likely to have been offense under existing law

Surely the solution to upskirting is young women stop flashing your thongs and wear longer skirts
