Birmingham's rubbish crisis shows no sign of ending

The rubbish bags have been building up in the streets of Birmingham for some time now as a row between bin workers and the city council gets increasingly bitter. As a result of government cutbacks, the city has to sharply reduce what it spends on waste management and this will inevitably involve job losses.

Trade union Unite has intensified strike action since August 7th and now says that it may run until Christmas if necessary. Meanwhile, the ordinary people of Birmingham are getting increasingly concerned about the smell and the effects on public health of thousands of bin bags lying uncollected on the street. The only winners in all this are flies, rats and maggots.

Meanwhile, the left wing newspaper The Morning Star has branded a group of Muslim volunteers who are trying to help clear the rubbish as a "scab army".

No they didn't brand Muslims scabs. In a shock development the telegraph decided there is nothing better to paralyse the left than to hint an action was anti Muslim. Hence the headline. In fairness they did let the well off create that monster so it's perhaps their dues.

Smash Fascism.Smash the Morning Star. Break the Strike.

Now the morning Star will have to adjust its socialism to be sensitive. Just like what it did on women's rights

Liar.

The TRUTH (a word that you may not previously have encountered while pleasuring yourself in your skip) is that one of The Daily Asswipe's journalists did.

The journo is question is a walking tapeworm called Steve Sweeney (perhaps you're related to him?); a wretch so badly infected with mental smallpox that he sees scabs everywhere.

Muslim volunteer group branded 'scabs' by Morning Star for cleaning rubbish-strewn streets
They called the volunteers who were cleaning up the streets a "scab army".

No-one suggested that the reference was to all Muslims so I don't what know what you're trying to say.

The Muslamics do seem to be self-centred scabs. Why have they all beards, as in "Beared Bros"? Your comments are very destructive and unhelpful. You are like one of the sectarians praising ISIS for maintianing law and order, keeping the buses running on time and having the refuse collected.
Do you support the nascent Dublin Caliphate as well?

In the view of the Morning Star types, the threat to public health is a perfectly acceptable weapon for "the working class" to use. Hence, anyone who addresses this threat and tries to clean up the mess is a traitor, scab, collaborator etc.

Labour run council so it's no surprise.

Birmingham City Council is comprised of 120 councillors. The Labour Party currently has the majority of councillors and runs the council.

The current numbers of councillors in each of the political parties is as follows:

Conservative - 29 councillors
Independent - 1 councillor
Labour - 80 councillors
Liberal Democrat - 10 councillors

I mentioned the fact that the volunteers are Muslim in the context of a lot of bias on this site that seeks to portray all Muslims in a negative light. Your desperate attempts to cast a bad light on their civic-minded actions are well....desperate.

When all faith is placed in Jack Grealish and Tony Pulis to stop Birmingham from having so much rubbish, you're simply begging for problems.

The cuts are being enforced by the Conservative government. It's not about Labour "mismanagement" or whatever it is you're implying.

BB will be coming over claiming asylum!
Sure will! I think I fancy Cork.

If P.ie is any guide I should have a house, benefits and a pram by teatime.

Actually my sister has done the ancestry thing and it looks likely I have some Irish travellers in my background too.

So room for a caravan and pony in my garden if you please.

'Tis my culture boss.

On-topic, I support the refuse collectors 100%

They do a hard and unpleasant job which is a vital service. The council wastes a mint of money on crap which could and should be cut instead.

The changes would see them lose up to £4,000 a year in salary. Thats a huge and unacceptable cut.

Will the rubbish piling up be a reality here when the private sector waste operators start further gouging?
I suspect so!
