Boston Bombings are good for Israel, says top Netanyahu aide

A high level advisor to Israeli PM Netanyahu, has channelled the spirit of his boss from 12 years ago, and said the recent Boston bombings were a good thing for Israel, as they would increase US support for the pariah state.

Ron Dermer, a diplomatic advisor to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and candidate for the post of Israeli ambassador to Washington, told a closed meeting of U.S. Jewish leaders in New York last week that the Boston marathon bombings would increase American support for Israel - just as that support increased following the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

Dermer made his remarks last Wednesday, two days after explosions rocked the Boston Marathon, killing three people and wounding nearly 200 more. Dermer, considered one of Netanyahu's closest associates, is currently on vacation, after having finished his stint as a senior adviser at the Prime Minister's Bureau.

"The bulk of the American people stand firmly with Israel and identify with Israel," Dermer said, in a video filmed by blogger Jacob Kornbluh. "If you can look, historically, there was a big change after 9/11, and I am sure that after the tragic bombing in Boston, people will identify more with Israel and its struggle against terrorism and we can maintain that support."
Astute readers might remember that in the wake of the September 11th events in 2001, Netanyahu himself said the attacks were good as they would generate immediate sympathy for Israel.
From the New York Times of September 12th, 2001.....
Asked tonight what the attack meant for relations between the United States and Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, the former prime minister, replied, ''It's very good.'' Then he edited himself: ''Well, not very good, but it will generate immediate sympathy.''
Can't get a leopard to change it's spots.
The families if the people killed and maimed in Boston will know their sacrifice was not in vain, but for the good of Greater Israel.

Would it have been acceptable if he had kept his views private? After all, you are using the deaths and his comments to comment negatively about Israel.

That's right. Shoot the messenger.
I'm just commenting on one of the first news stories I saw this morning. Not setting the agenda.
His views can be his own until he states them in his official capacity.

Regrettebly however, I doubt Natanyahu will condemn the financial support which the late Jewish oligarch Berezovsky gave to Chechen mobsters. Some of his money probably went to fund Chechen terrorism

No surprise that racial supremacists are delighted. Look at how the unionists on here creamed themselves when the Boston bomb went off – they were thinking that’ll get a few Taigs.

But surely he's just extrapolating from historical trends. It's the equivalent of a gun control lobbyist talking about a likely increase in support for gun control after a mass shooting.

If Americans are victims of Islamic terrorism, attitudes will harden and a side effect of that will be an increasing identification with other victims of Islamic terrorism.

And the doctors and medical staff treating the injured have praised Israel - The Boston Marathon bombings left at least three people dead, including an eight-year-old boy, and injured more than 170 people, but in the aftermath of the horrific attack doctors and staff at the Massachusetts General Hospital have praised emergency expertise gained from Israel.

According to Dr. Alasdair Conn, the hospital’s triage system had been set up with the help of Israelis two years ago, improving how the wounded were distributed between hospitals, as well the methods used to locate shrapnel deep in wounds.

Only post number 3 and already you are trying to move away from the thread discussion. Can you keep on topic?

Uh. No. No it wouldn't have been acceptable. What an odd question.

Zionist propaganda sheet. The doctors I saw on TV said their expertise came from treating wounded soldiers from Iraq.

In fairness pointing out a fact isn't exactly a crime.

Will attitudes harden more towards muslim extremists due to the Boston bombing.

I'd say there's a good chance they will.

See this I don't get.

Instead of laughing off the OP you affirm it's legitimacy.

Will the Boston bombings heighten support for Israel? Absolutely, that's a no brainer, as it is no longer an academic abstract occurance for the US to have Islamic terrorists running around indiscriminately killing innocent civilians. That picture of Tsarnaev seemingly smirking as he was planting the device beside the family that were devastated in the bombing is propaganda gold for Israel as they will be able to remind the US of what it is fighting everytime it takes action in Gaza or the West Bank etc.

But why would I laugh off the OP......well apart from some of the dumb conclusions the poster came to. This attack and how the victims of it were treated will lead to even further cooperation between Israel and the US in medical training and treatment of victims of terror attacks. Israel has a lot of experience with these types of injuries after years of treating people injured in terror attacks. It is happy to share this experience in treatments with the world. Makes the calls for boycotts of Israel moot. What country would realistically want to boycott Israel now? I would think that many countries will be cooperating more with Israel in the future

The countries that need most to cooperate with Israel are Israels neighbours. Why can't they see that accepting Israel, learning from it and working with it is to the greatest benefit of the entire region.
