A story from todays IT that saddened but didn't suprise me

https://www.irishtimes.com/news/crime-and-law/boy-unable-to-take-teddy-into-abuse-trial-due-to-bias-fears-1.3454912

It struck me on a number of fronts

Firstly , despite all the plum state jobs and agencies for children , the attitude of the state hasn't really changed ...the underlying disregard for children still exists be it this or homelessness for children.

But mostly Im struck by the sheer bloody minded stupidity of it ....How come sheer common sense can never prevail due to the rotten ,corrupt , money grabbing nature of the Irish legal system.

From ridiculous compensation claims , to white collar leniency, the merry go round of free legal aid offenders and through to ridiculous shenanigans for an allegedly sexually abused and traumatised child trying to give evidence being denied comfort , when did we decide as a nation , that this (farce) was the sort of legal system we wanted.

It seems to me anyway , this just highlights that our legal system is rotten to the core and unfit for purpose in many many cases

Alternatively, there is a need for a little simple legislation to sort this out.
Indeed ....but it seems ridiculous in 2018 , especially in a country with such a history of awful child protection and such wide scale historical abuse , that stuff like this still needs legislating for ...that was my point

And if you then look at all the other deficiencies in our legal system , you would be forced to conclude , that like so many parts of the Irish State , the legal system is designed for the benefit of those that practice law and not its citizens and certainly not its children .... despite they hype
