Recent leaks in South Korea have revealed that a cult figure known as Choi Soon Sil has been writing the Presidents' speeches and dictating government policy on economic, social and military matters.

Troubling revelations about Seoul's 'Shadow President'

The latest revelations suggest that Choi had received regular reports on Park's schedule, speeches, personnel arrangements and even some classified information, such as secret inter-Korea military meetings. Park on Tuesday admitted to having sought Choi's opinions on her speeches and apologised. The scandal swirling around what critics call the "shadow president" has sent Park's approval ratings plunging and even triggered calls for impeachment

South Korea's President Park Geun-hye under pressure over Choi Soon-sil, faces calls to resign

In a rare televised public apology this week, the 64-year-old leader admitted she received help on state affairs from an old friend and informal advisor called Choi Soon-sil. Choi, who holds no post in government, provided advice on speeches and public relations issues during the 2012 presidential election campaign and continued to assist for a period after the 2013 inauguration, Park said.

Several reports in South Korean media suggested that Choi also had access to classified material related to national security and economic policies. And there has been widespread speculation that Choi may have interfered in key government affairs, and exploited her connections to Park to establish two nonprofit foundations using funds from corporate donations. On Thursday, prosecutors established a task-force to probe the unfolding development.

Court upholds Park's impeachment , she is now dead politically , Early elections ahead for them.

The timing is not ideal for them, given how export dependent their economy is. Whoever it is that the electorate returns to power will need a strong mandate for the road that lies ahead.

Political Power play I think

- asking the advise of a friend on what to do

- is hardly unlawful or un democratic....
