The United States Justice Department led by Attorney General Eric Holder secretly obtained two months of telephone records of reporters and editors for The Associated Press in April and May 2012 in what the news cooperative's top executive called a "massive and unprecedented intrusion" into how news organizations gather news.

Records were seized for more than 20 separate phone lines assigned to AP journalists and up to 100 journalists could have had their call details monitored.

AP attorneys claim that the records obtained by the Justice Department listed incoming and outgoing calls, and the duration of each call, for the work and personal phone numbers of individual reporters, general AP office numbers in New York, Washington and Hartford, Conn., and the main number for AP reporters in the House of Representatives press gallery.

The purpose of the monitoring is believed to have been to trace confidential government sources contacted by reporters, specifically as part of an ongoing criminal investigation into how the AP learned of a classified CIA operation to stop a bomb plot last year.

These latest revelations will add to the pressure on the Obama administration already under fire over Benghazi and the IRS' politically motivated targeting of conservative groups.

When it happened here it was a significant factor in bringing down the government, and rightly so. Can't see it happening there unfortunately, in that utterly mucked up country.

Nothing new, they have been recording telephone calls from millions of people for decades now. Democrats will tell us how they protect the rights of the people but will igniore the reach of the NSA at the same time the Republicans will denounce big government but excluding of course the military. Maybe those crazy militia have a point afterall...

Robert Kennedy authorised the wire tapping of Martin Luther King's phone.

Weirdly, I created an OP regarding wiretapping today.

Not a shock and shows how anybody not screaming Obama's message was targeted.

Press now.
Last week its using IRS to target anybody who opposed him.

Lame duck presidency and the worst of what really happened at Benghazi has yet to come out.

Scandal politics sweep Capitol Hill - Jake Sherman and Lauren French - POLITICO.com

Scandal politics are sweeping Capitol Hill.

Just days after news broke that the IRS targeted conservative non-profits, Speaker John Boehner’s House committees will morph into mock courtrooms where the White House will be the defendant in what amounts to a number of high-stakes political trials.

The most recent scandal to grip the Obama administration came Monday evening, when the Associated Press disclosed that the Justice Department sought its reporters’ phone records — including those of correspondents who sit in the Capitol. Within hours, House Republicans vowed to investigate. To make things worse for Obama, Attorney General Eric Holder is scheduled to be on Capitol Hill Thursday for a House Judiciary Committee hearing.

Benghazi, IRS, AP. You wait 4 years for a scandal...

And there it is. There's months of Obama-bashing in that lot - in fact, more than enough to lead nicely all the way up to 2014. Already, the word "impeachment" is popping up all over the place.

These c*nts want Obama, and now they have their bones. No matter how non-existent the connection to Obama (IRS), no matter how fundamentally bogus the charges (Benghazi) and no matter how much a matter of dry institutional procedure (AP), Obama's opponents will hammer him personally on each for all they're political worth.

Meanwhile, this week the House is taking its 37th vote to overturn Obamacare. Over 180 Presidential appointees await confirmation. Background checks - voted down. Fiscal deal - dying. Immigration progressing only because it suits the GOP's politics.

This is obsturctionism and political sabotage on a dizzying scale. It is so cynical and so nasty it's hard to get your head around. They don't give a fu*k about anything other than playing politics and destroying Obama. When you think of the catastrophe of the Bush administration, all the scandals, all the lies, and how these same monkeys empowered it all, and then you see these trumped-up bs attacks on Obama, really, it's just beyond belief.

There is definitely a sense that the administration is on the defensive. It seems like a new scandal every week and the press won't like that they were targets

We need to distinguish a scandal from a political firestorm. They're different things.

What really happened in Benghazi ?
The Ambassador was murdered by Islamists that the US are now funding and backing in Syria, What is now the Al Nusra Front, which is made up almost completely of Islamist fighters that overthrew Gaddafi in Libya. The CIA even chartered planes to bring thousands of them from Libya to Turkey. Hence the cover up. The Obama administration is terrified that the world will find out that they are arming and funding the same group of people who burned down a US Embassy and murdered an Ambassador in cold blood...........

The Benghazi cover-up is all about Syria.
