I was watching CNBC Europe's repeat of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and there was a pretty rough piece which featured a picture of Brian Cowen which was taken from the internet. He was looking very "merry" at some kind of a party or something.

Leno asked the audience to guess what this guy does :

Is he a) A bartender b) A politician or c) a night club comedian.

The audience voted by clapping loudly / shouting.
He then revealed that he was in fact the Irish PM.
He followed this by saying that "at least we aren't the only country with ......."
(Needless to say it wasn't particularly flattering)

Unfortunately, the video is not viewable from outside the United States.
However, if anyone has any way around it, or is in the US perhaps they might do the honours and get a YouTube clip ?

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno - Wednesday, September 22, 2010 - Video - NBC.com

The episode aired in the US on 22 September and repeated twice on CNBC Europe this weekend and on Thursday.

The material is in the monologue at the start, but is not available on the 'highlights from the monologue' on the NBC website as it contained images. They edit everything that isn't just Jay Leno talking out.

Unfortunately, it just shows that Taoisigh need to manage their personal (public) appearances. There's no point in blaming Simon Coveney or anyone else. It's vitally important that the Taoiseach himself projects a competent and confident image at all times. Politics, particularly at that level, is a 24/7/365 gig.

Hardly surprising. Clowen has disgraced this nation, and brought shame to the legacy of heroes like Michael Collins who laid down their lives so that we might be free. FF has taken that freedom and pissed it up against a urinal wall in a 3 star galway hotel. If there's one thing we can say for certain about Enda Kenny, it is that he will never be featured on Jay Leno.

It's worrying as it's also a show that repeats on CNBC Europe and CNBC Asia. These are major international business channels and Tonight, with Jay Leno is the only light entertainment they broadcast.

For that reason, it's not a show you'd want to be lampooned on if you were trying to convince business people of your competence.

Again, the picture they used has nothing to do with Twitter or Coveney. It's just something that you'll find if you do a Google image search of his name!

I happened to catch this the other night. Obviously I knew the answer before he announced it but it is embarrassing to have the Taoiseach become the butt of jokes on the late night comedy shows. It came at the very end of the monologue.

Here's the photo they used

Immediately after the photo Leno says "It's so nice to know we're not the only country with drunken morons".

I have used this argument many times before. Politicians love our contempt and hatred. A la Lenny, it "proves" they're taking the "tough" "unpopular" decisions.

What they cannot survive is ridicule and disrespect. Ridicule is what is hurting Cowen now. Accusations of incompetence just rolled off his back. Slagging him off for being a stupid drunk, now, that hurts.

Laugh at the scum wherever they are, there's no defence to that.

What really bugs me about some people's reaction to this is that they claim to be outraged at this paddy-wackery and say it's unfair and nasty on the one hand, yet when fair criticism is directed at politicians by local commentators the same people attack them for being sanctimonious and prudish, "All the man did was have a few drinks.". We can't have it both ways, if we tolerate the behavior such as that displayed by the Taoiseach last Monday then we will be lampooned on an international stage. It's one or the other.

The last line of defense when there is nothing else to say, Just about as stupid as threads on the North when posters are beaten on a argument, The famous quote, "was Gerry Adams
in the IRA. Sinn Fein is doing the country service by taking the government to court, I believe Mr Kenny will also mount a strong challenge next week, Never in the history of our country apart from the disgrace of last week has our democracy been put at stake, we heard Mr Cowen last Friday saying he had power by parliamentary majority, How can he say that when he is refusing to hold elections When Mr Kenny raises the question of the writs and Mr Doherty going to the high court it would be unheard of to use taxpayers money to defend the action, This is an insult not just to our democracy but to the people who died for it,

Answer the question...............
How many deaths did deValera cause?

Whatabout whatabouttery?

Anyway what's that got to do with Cowen being the butt of jokes worldwide?

He's a fool, and worse, he's known as a fool. No amount of FF spin you try here will change that internationally.
