And btw, Ministers will have a cabinet meeting Wednesday next to begin discussions on how to deliver €3 billion in cuts in December’s budget. They will then have a final cabinet meeting on Wednesday 28th.

And then meet again sometime in September.

Great value for money. No wonder the country is ********************ked.

So he's paid more than the heads of the 3 largest economies in the EU despite being in charge of a bankrupt country with the worst deficit in the EU. Does anyone know exactly when the Taoiseach's salary started to spiral to Banana Republic levels? I'm guessing it was the first Ahern government (1997-2002)

Finally, an impartial way of rating our taoiseach. It would appear we are punching well above our weight, we have the 4th best paid and surely therefore fourth best in the enitre world.

Very unfair to judge him against world leaders like that. Don't you realise he delayed a pay increase & even took a pay reduction last year? Also he salary is benchmarked against similar EU countries. OK so he is benchmarked at 35% above those countries but its still a benchmark. Also if we didn't pay politicians a good salary we wouldn't attract such talented people to the jobs.

Good Point, we shoul be loking to double or treble this salary immediately, and maybe we can attract even better candidates. Maybe Bono would even be tempted?

Rudd is just gone a few weeks and Brown a few months, so it's not exactly miles out and I dobut the pay has changed for any of them in that time.

Still though not half as much as Somers (CEO of the NTMA) was suspected to earn
According to the Sunday Times in 2004 he and the other five directors were paid 2.58 million
so ~ 430,000 Euro each and they quote unnamed banking sources saying he earned 980,000 in 2008.
Our unelected civil servants are also screwing us

We have to pay him all this money to prevent another country coming in and offering him a better package

Totally agree, corruption would be rife if they were not benchmarked at +35%
