In the last decade elements of republicanism have sought to diminish the British identity of people living in Northern Ireland.

What in the name of God is she on about?

British identity is on parity with Irish identity.

Long may it last.

With the signing of the Good Friday Agreement drawing a line under centuries of colonial domination that was true.

With Brexit the GFA has been torn up and the Irish have been relegated again to the lower orders of colonial times with whom they can tear up agreements at will.

As with the Maastricht Treaty, that relegated us to the lower orders also, out of one empire into another.

A century ago the UK governed nearly a quarter of the population of the globe.

Since then it has been on the winning side in two world wars, is a nuclear power and is a permanent member of the security council of the UN.

Thus as one of the most powerful and influential countries in the world it signed an agreement to cooperate with nearly thirty other European democracies in matters of mutual interest.

That is the EU which is the most advanced effort at international cooperation in the world in a continent which experienced centuries of imperial/totalitarian conflict.

Brexiteers, however, have declared the EU to be variously 'The Fourth Reich', the 'EUSSR' or the 'US of Europe'.

Instead of cooperating with fellow democracies Brexit has declared economic war on the other countries of the EU.

the GFA was a spit in the face for law abiding people
No, the GFA represents the democratically validated will of the vast majority of Irish people.

Is that why you are sh!tting your pants?
The only people animated are the likes of yourself.

No one on the unionist side gives a toss as it is never going to happen.

Sing your wee songs and hold your wee rallies. It's all a pipe dream without a shred of reality.

That is some contribution to the democratic discourse.

Surely you can do better than that?
All you do is repeat the same diatribe in post after post. It's been answered countless times.

The UK don't like the way the EU is run and want to leave it. The end.

Now you can behave like adults and take part in a comprehensive free trade agreement and you'll hardly notice any difference.

Or, you can try to bring the jackboot down and the shit will hit the fan.

Thems the choices.

One of the most powerful countries in the world and former colonial power signed an agreement to cooperate with nearly thirty European democracies in matters of mutual interest.

In addition the same former colonial power which a century ago governed a quarter of the population of the globe signed the Good Friday Agreement with a former colony.

This agreement, together with a visit of the queen, opened the border to free traffic and drew a line under centuries of colonial rule.

Brexit has, however, torn up that agreement and reimposes border checks.

On top of all that the former imperial power is blaming European citizens and Paddy for the consequences of its own racist actions.

All you can contribute to the debate is boo. Pathetic.
