Quite a shocking article with astronomical numbers concerning England/Britain's brutal and imperialist use of Irish Children as slaves and victims of sex abuse and genocide during the 1650's.

Mr Martin explains how the Irish population fell drastically due to the slave trade. This was done at the hands of the British who simply broke up families and sold them to settlers in the New World.

“From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland’s population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade. Families were ripped apart as the British did not allow Irish dads to take their wives and children with them across the Atlantic. This led to a helpless population of homeless women and children. Britain’s solution was to auction them off as well,” he said.

"He also claims that Irish women and young girls were forced to breed with African males to produce a ‘mulatto’ slave of a different complexion." Still regularly happening in Dublin's inner city nowadays. Shocking altogether.

I wonder why the Brits stopped doing it after 1652. Were the exported slaves lazy or unhealthy or were the African slaves cheaper.

According to the article they didn't.
In 1656, Oliver Cromwell ordered that 2,000 children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers there.
It's quite likely I would imagine that African slaves would be better suited to the climate in Jamaica then us Irish, who would sun burn quickly and probably die before long.

There is a segment here from a 70s documentary of Monserrat. Check out the accent of the local interviewed.

(Although it has been argued that the Irish were in fact the slave owners on Monserrat. That's why the slave revolt there took place on St. Patrick's day, as it was known that the slave owners would be drunk...)

The death rate in the caribbean plantations was 20% per year so people transported there as slaves would not have lasted long.

Its worth remembering that the majority of the labour in the early plantations was white people. The high death rate among them meant a new source of labour became necessary hence the eventual reliance on Africans. The Africans had a somewhat lesser death rate due to a greater imminity to tropical diseases.

As for Irish women mated to African men this also happened. Though I think there was a court case in the 1680s which declared the practice illegal.

As an aside Rihanna the pop star is descended from Irish caribbean "redlegs"

Cromwell was ruling then. Later his successor, his son (how like royalty) had too many problems at home, then there was the Restoration. Probably there were other reasons, but you have to remember that Ireland is usually mentioned in footnotes in general British history. It is rarely in the main text.

If memory serves Irish people kept slaves a whole lot later than Cromwellian times. Last year at a Travellers halting site in the UK springs to mind for some reason.

Right so -wallow in his MOPE rubbish if it makes you feel better :) But the figures are laughable.
Well, someone like you would prefer the narrative to be that the British were only trying to 'civilise' those they invaded.

Perhaps we can call for reparations?
Maybe have an Irish History Month?
Call for the British to reserve a certain number of jobs for people of Irish descent calling this a scheme for the 'previously disadvantaged?'

Have to laugh at Martin's work being taken seriously :)
So true.

Globalresearch.ca may best be described as a left-wing equivalent to WingNutDaily. Despite presenting itself as a source of scholarly analysis, globalresearch.ca mostly consists of polemics many of which accept (and use) conspiracy theories, pseudoscience and propaganda.

If you google some of the facts in that piece you will get references to this book - They Were White and They Were Slaves

You can't deny from everything stated in the links, that this was happening in the thousands, and obviously affected the population figures.

Oh wait ..... you can, because it is the British who were doing this.
