Yes, and Cowen and Lenihan promised to give us the final number for Anglo before the end of the month.

This government wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the face.

It will not stop the High Court action by Doherty. It is a move by the government to try to appease the court IMO.

the fact that they will "commit" to Q1 2011 but won't commit to a specific date shows just how real a "commitment" it is.

Easter is late next year, so I suspect they may move the writs in March and use the Easter break for the campaign. I'd guess a date of 28th/29th April for voting. The intention could then be to limp on until the summer break.

Children's rights referendum, Dublin Mayor election, By-elections...

€10 says we'll never have the By-elections.

The IT is saying saying bye-elections by the end of March 2011

Byelections 'by end March 2011' - The Irish Times - Wed, Sep 29, 2010

But the big question has to be, will the bye-elections and FF's inevitable loss signal the end of the current government? David Davin Power seemed to think so..
They had a majority of four on the FG motion, so they could lose all three and still hold on (uncomfortably). Don't forget that in a tie, the CC supports the government.

What were Curran's exact words? Did he commit to holding the by-elections or moving the writs in Q1?

and so say all of us......

may 2011 a year early....

cowen will make a 'state of the nation' address surrounded by the party td's...............he will explain the situation clearly, draw attention to the mis-matched alternative, send out the boys all over the place 'back to basics'......and hope for a fg poor day leading to a ff/lab coalition with a majority of 12....

Were the writs actually moved, or just promised?
I think by-elections have to be held within 90 days of the moving of a writ, so it was just promised.

The air of unreality surrounding the posts of Govt supporters has really kicked up a gear or three today. Yer all completely deluded.

Enda Kenny said in the Dail that He will go to the high court if they don't hold all 3 so they have no way out.
I think super pedestrian meant the GE will happen before the by-elections. This Govt is about to fall. Isn't there a German (or Russian?) word for that sense of manic unreality that pervaded Hitler's Bunker in the last weeks?
