No election until 2020 as FF renew C&S deal

Well, speculation on a May 2019 GE seems to be out the window now as FF announce that they will ensure another year of confidence and supply:

FF renews Confidence and Supply Agreement

Ireland was in a period of heightened danger over fears created by a hard Brexit and the risk of a no deal outcome had risen dramatically, he told the Dáil.

Circumstances had changed and everybody had a duty to respond, Mr Martin said.
He's pretending to be annoyed, but my feeling is he must be delighted.

An affront to democracy. FF and FG are the biggest threats to our continued stability and by keeping themselves in place, leave themselves open for the inevitable protests and action that will occur in the coming years in response to Brexit, Gilets Jaunes, etc. And it will happen.

Budget 2019, lest we forget, was the eleventh consecutive austerity budget and there's only so much we can take

Probably the right thing for the country. Maybe not the right thing for FF and it may put Martin's position at threat if they don't do well in the Locals.

Good for Labour, who desperately needed the GE after the Locals just so they could drum up some candidates.

Bad for the alphabets, who had a high-point at the last locals and will appear to have backward momentum come a GE.

Probably doesn't mean much for FG, SF or Indos.

Right call. An election in the spring of 2020 gives important certainty given the circus across the pond

The Capitulation and Servitude agreement is obviously being pushed as guaranteeing stability. However, once the Brexit situation is resolved, the FF backbenchers may get restless especially if they see SF gaining at FF's expense.

Any idea when that will be?

The Local Elections will be telling as they can't be passed off as a bad opinion poll is.
I agree, but I was asking about the Brexit sh1tshow.

Pencilled in for March 30th. Martin probably hasn't told the FF backbenchers which year yet. Once there is stability across the water, Martin is gone and so is the C&S agreement.

P.ie poster who doesn't like the result:

Local elections are different to general elections.
Our core vote didn't bother turning out.
It was a low turnout.
People are bycotting the establishment.
Etc etc etc.

If May lose the VOC tonight or win by 154/158 to 152/148 and decide to resign, if their is more tna 1 candidate for the leadership, they reckon it could take 12 weeks for another leader to be elected, so March 30 will be gone.

Fianna Fáil guarantees no election in 2019 amid Brexit uncertainty as it extends confidence and supply arrangement - Independent.ie

Compared to what's happening in the UK this makes us look organised. Good news I think.
This will allow stability and confidence throughout the Brexit ermmmm.. process.. and allow the passing of another budget.
You happy with this?
I guess if one has been living with one's family in a hotel room for a year, it's stability of a sort and one can be confident that one hasn't a hope of getting out of there under this government.

Local Elections are more to do with local issues like roads, sewage, whet has the LC done for his area, often people will cross vote to support their local candidate rather than vote for a candidate 10/15 miles away

It needs to be a decisive win. If there's any risk of a close result, there's going to be a lot of pressure on May to resign before the vote.

As for no election till 020, i don't think it would take much for either Michael or Leo to pull the plug on it, Leo if FG polls show them building up a good lead over FF and SF, Michael on which way the wind is blowing, if Enda had called the GE in Oct./Nov 015 FG would have done awfull lot better 10 to 12 seats better

FF are done, they could have been the opposition to globalisation/mass immigration/liberalism that people are craving all across EUROPE, instead MM has thrown his lot in with Leo.

Someone else WILL fill the gap and ff will return to the electoral process irrelevant.
