The Kerry Public Service Workers’ Alliance is to start a campaign to encourage SIPTU members to stop a portion of their union subscriptions being passed onto the Labour Party. According to the alliance, the Labour Party receives in the region of €98,000 annually from SIPTU membership. The alliance is calling on all SIPTU members to complete a Political Fund Exemption Notice and send it to their local SIPTU office, so the Labour Party won’t receive the funds any more.

A spokesperson for the Alliance suggested that "it was madness to fund the Labour party when it turned its back on workers and everything that trade unions represent". I personally feel this is the correct way to go since the Labour party has turned to the Right and Labour ministers like Howlin threaten workers. Well this suggestion get much of a up take from Union members?

Proper order and long overdue! Never felt entirely comfortable with the payment myself.

Heard the Liveline on this earlier - should leave no one in any doubt that Labour are for the upper tier of the public sector, and not the ordinary worker.

It does seem bizarre - what exactly have Labour got to do with actual labour?

Nothing juts another way of sucking cash out of workers, in the wake of Howlins threats workers should pull the plug on this source of income for Labour.

They avoid it as much as possible. It gets even more bizarre when you have Mrs. Gimmemore and the site business, about which Gimmemore himself will only say that it is none of his business. Up there with Bertie the Socialist and other nonsensical myths of Irish politics.

So the Labour Party are paid 98,000 a year . . .and they then proceed to threaten the people who are paying them?

You gotta hand it to them (not the cash that is)
