What is the absolute minimum required by FG in BY ELECTION in order for Enda to remain as leader?

Is the by election winnable for FG???

With a general election just around the corner, I think the FG leadership question is well and truly dealt with by now.

Seriously. Do you really think this is going to work? It would be laughable if it wasn't so sad. You need to learn a new trick Tony....

Kenny / Cowen = Different sides of the same coin. FG would have made the same mistakes as FF have.

genuine question lads. No point ignoring it. FG will be tested in an electoral contest in 3 weeks time. FF are at an all-time low and ye think its not an issue that FG and Enda Kenny will not be able to capitalise on this??

Donegal with some justice, tends to feel neglected - in terms of political geography nearly an offshore island thanks to the border, cut off from its hinterland, and the city that should serve it, no rail link to the rest of the republic (are the three Ulster counties in the republic the only ones without a railway station? ). A feeling that can only have been heightened by the refusal to hold the by- election. So, when Pearse D. takes them on in Dublin and wins, there has to be a huge vote dividend. I'd guess he'll walk it.....

What will the issues be in this constituency?

I notice from the last GE that FG actually picked up more transfers than SF from FF. Admittadly the numbers are low but FF had over 50% of the vote so even allowing for reduction their transfers will surely be the deciding factor?

i think fg"s chances of winning a by-election in donegal
would be minimal under any circumstance"s
so using results or polls up there are of little or no relevance

so really the big question is
this will be an indication of ff"s core vote in its true heartland

Not knowing Donegal that well but would fed up FFers be more likely to switch to SF,FG or stay at home.

Given the results below and that bye elections are far different from GE, also local geography, local issues will play a big part. Any educated predictions?

2007 GE First Pref's Donegal S/W

Mary Coughlan(FF) 10,530
Pat Gallagher (FF)9,606
Dinny McGinley(FG) 9,167

Pearse Doherty(SF) 8,462
Seamus Rodgers(Lab) 1,111
Sean O Maolchallann(Green) 589
John Doherty(Indo) 388

Get into the real world. Donegal is generally staunch FF territory. Have you ever been to Donegal? Quite obviously not. Very few FF supporters would even contemplate switching to FG whatever about Sinn Fein. I would not rule out an FF victory.
Possibly if John Deasy were leader, FG might take the seat lol
Take a good look at the statistics posted above by Rosmuc.

Why haven't FF declared a candidate yet? And what about their failed attempts to recruit Packie Bonner?
