PBP have five sitting Councillors:
Brid Smith
Gino Kenny
Hugh Lewis
Joan Collins
Richard Boyd Barrett

Two of these are in Dun Laoghaire where I do not feel there is sufficient momentum for them to take a seat in a four seater next time out.Labour will hope to take the green seat but who Gilmore's running mate will be is not clear.

Dublin mid west might be a hope depends on Sinn Fein i suppose. The greens are definitely gone here,Harney is gone and Curran will lose up to half his first prefrences--who knows.

South central looks better -O'Snodaigh will be in danger here.Smith andCollins are roughly from this area.

I'd have thought Boyd Barrett would be in with a very goo shout of getting a seat. He did poll over 4,000 1st preferences in the locals last year.

He also got over 5,000 1st preferences in the 2007 GE. It will all depend on transfers and this is where Labour could overtake him.

That's the key. It it remained a 5 seater I would give them the last seat, but not with 4.

.
That would be my feeling as well. If it was still a 5 seater Boyd Barrett would be a favourite. However, as a 4 seater with a 20% quota it may be just too high a bar. I think they will fail in DSC as well because the vote is spread between 2 geographic candidates that may not transfer too well and the strength of Labour.

Will the Socialist Workers Party be putting forward candidates too, or have they outsourced all that electoral stuff to PBP.

The PBP is a SWP front. However I think RBB will just about fall short out in DL.

It is very hard for councillors outside the main three to get into the Dail. Christy Burke never made it in DNC despite 20 years as a councillor. The trouble with local elections is that the electorate perceives councillors to be unimportant and local elections aside from being a protest vote you can also get elected with 1000 votes or less. Without a good reason or cause a councillor is likely to fail.

Boyd Barret can't get elected in Dun Laoire as mentioned and probably not next door. Like all independents the key is getting enough of a first pref share to help him survive long enough to be elected. IMO he won't be able to get enough first prefs in a GE against real opposition, not against the main party machines.

Hopefully not. The last thing we need are these fruit loops in the Daíl.

If I was them I'd be pinning my hopes on dublion south Central.

I feel the left has to get a boost in these times ,imho the real frit loops are the libertarians who despite concrete evidence that their system is broken beyond repair refuse to recognise the fact.

Its my understanding that the PBP are part on the recently formed United Left Alliance and their candidates will be contesting under that banner. I fully expect them to pick up seats given their excellent LE results.

If RBB does not take the 4th seat in Dunlaoghaire, then who will?
Let's say FF FG Lab 1 each.

They have formed an electoral Alliance with the Socialist Party to work on the next election together.

United Left Alliance formed. « The Cedar Lounge Revolution

Sounds interesting, but I'm not that anything that reminds people of the word Lu La so clearly is a good idea for a name.
I suspect they got the name and perhaps the idea from the Spanish organisation Izquierda Unida which is an all-encompassing umbrella for all kinds of left-leaning organisations.

Their best bet is taking the SF seat in DSC.
2FF, 1 FG 1 Lab and 1 SF could be:
1FF 1 FG 2 Lab and 1 from SF/PBP/Lab (in that order - for the last seat)

If the SWP don't have the faith in their own policies or faith in their own party then why should we vote for them under this front?

If ye believe in yere policies go forward as SWP.

(funnily enough I've never met a member of the socialist workers party with a job)

I thought it was their position that PBP was itself a 'united alliance'. So is ULA a united alliance of united alliances?

The micro left are gas!

I agree word is snoddy is in big bother here and there maybe another opening for someone of the left. Hopefully Bríd Smith-she is an excellent spokesperson and represernts left wing perspective strongly.
