Green votes this time were almost without exception VOTES FOR ANYONE EXCEPT THE MAIN PARTIES and no one ever made a comeback on that basis, what the green vote represents this time around is the BREAKDOWN OF OUR DEMOCRATIC SYSTEM's ability to really deliver what voters want.
Dangerous times a coming
Lab and SF must be very disappointed.
Probably FF as well who will make modest gains at best if the exit polls has underestimated their vote.

If they can't gain seats at the locals what chance in the next general?

At least FG can point out that government parties tend to do poorly in locals.

It will be the spin but where was the Leo bounce that they expected when they chose their leader?

Changing leader doesn't seem to work these days.

I was always sceptical of the claims Mary Lou or Leo would make a big difference to their parties.

SF lab FG all going to do worse than 2014 if the exit poll is right.

KIMMAGE-RATHMINES LEA

COSTELLO PATRICK
3,283 Votes 1st Pref: 20.4%

The quota was 2302.

Another example of where they needed another candidate.

My low opinion of the people who vote in our elections has only been confirmed.

It's strange in that the Greens were very pro-water charges and now a lot of people who opposed/didn't pay are now voting for them in droves.

Only in Ireland.
We need to spend billions upgrading our water infrastructure if we want to build the 30,00 houses a year that the experts tell us we need.

The Greens are on 6% after 144 counts in the locals. (166 in total)

No way they are getting the 9% the exit poll predicted.

If it's the same for the Euros they will probably only get one seat.

The opposite of the "shy tory" effect - people in polls overstating their votes for the parties which are seen as less contentious, like the greens.

It’s a pity her party leader and other members didn’t share her view.
Generally can't things done from the Opposition benches. She should head off to Europe, assuming she gets elected, it'll teach her things about politics.
