Carnism: a serious theory?

Anyone know or interested in the term coined by Melanie Joy known as 'Carnism'? Essentially, it is about our meat-eating practices in the west particularly and how for example, we eat some animals with the same intelligence and emotions of - pigs, for example - animals who we care for and name as pets, such as dogs. Joy's theory is a bit deeper than that, but just wondering what some people's views are on this.

I'll post probably the most concise and best video about it online. Whilst I tend to agree with Joy, I have to be aware of where she is coming from. There is a weird third wave feminist talking point I find bizzare. She has this talking point that meat eating is, like previous ideologies, part of the 3 N's. Meat eating is considered 'normal, natural and necessary', just as slavery and patriarchy were considered as such. However, she then goes off into what I consider fantasy land. She mentions how 'heterosexual supremacy' is part of the three N's. I haven't a clue how that can be compared to slavery, but she mentions it.

Other than that, a decent topic of discussion and quite different from how the communists are destroying radiators in Europe or how people on the dole in Ballymun caused Chernobyl.

I have some Sikh vegan friends though apparently they don't need to be (vegan) who are obviously baffled by the regard we show the mutt and again the disregard we show (as they see it) for other species, by turning around and eating them. It's not hard to sympathise with where they're coming from. Maybe God shouldn't have really made living creatures out of meat.

Indeed, in Joy's book about the subject, she brings up good info about pigs. I never knew they had the intelligence of three-year-old humans and are gregarious animals, not only of each other but with humans as well.

I'm considering trying vegetarianism, but the difficulty of coming off my current diet would literally be life changing.

I think Joy makes a good point about how meat-eating is considered 'necessary' when there is evidence exactly to the contrary and how many sports stars are maintaining themselves on a plant based diet. Nate Diaz, who boxed McGregor around, is surprisingly a vegetarian, for example.

Indeed, vegetarians or vegans do tend to be incorrigible. That Orwell quote about the worst advertisement of socialism springs to mind and replace socialism with vegans

Indeed. My other favourite is “A humanitarian is always a hypocrite” which I've personally seen first hand on many an occasion.

Serious question here. If no one eats meat, what becomes of the cattle pigs and sheep?

If vegetarians really care about animals, why do they eat all their food?

You will find me drinking rum,
Like a sailor in a slum,
You will find me drinking beer like a Bavarian
You will find me drinking gin
In the lowest kind of inn
Because I am a rigid Vegetarian.

So I cleared the inn of wine,
And I tried to climb the sign,
And I tried to hail the constable as “Marion.”
But he said I couldn’t speak,
And he bowled me to the Beak
Because I was a Happy Vegetarian.

Oh, I know a Doctor Gluck,
And his nose it had a hook,
And his attitudes were anything but Aryan;
So I gave him all the pork
That I had, upon a fork
Because I am myself a Vegetarian.

I am silent in the Club,
I am silent in the pub.,
I am silent on a bally peak in Darien;
For I stuff away for life
Shoving peas in with a knife,
Because I am a rigid Vegetarian.

No more the milk of cows
Shall pollute my private house
Than the milk of the wild mares of the Barbarian
I will stick to port and sherry,
For they are so very, very,
So very, very, very, Vegetarian.

Vegans and vegetarians are mentally challenged.

Science has said so.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/evolutionary-psychiatry/201211/youre-vegetarian-have-you-lost-your-mind

Science, people!
What it actually says is that people with mental disorders are more likely to be vegetarians or vegans.

Temporally, the adoption of a vegetarian diet, on average, tended to follow the mental health diagnosis, suggesting that the vegetarian diet was not in fact causal.
