Should have ditched it a safe distance off shore.

Every pilot should watch this short video before considering a landing on a crowded beach with people on it...

Why take the chance of hurting/killing someone

Not so easy if it has a fixed undercarriage. But gliding it towards a busy beach is criminal. Surely some other option was available.

It would depend on the nature of the technical malfunction on the plane.

There may have been no alternative.

possible but if you can head towards the beach you could head for the water beside the beach and ditch in the sea. Methinks they didnt want to get salt water in the engine

If there was a technical malfunction with the planes steering mechanism and or other problems then the beach landing may have been the only option.

Im sure it will be investigated.

On the surface yes, one can say yes they should have ditched in water but lets wait and see.

If that alternative was viable then the pilot if he/she survived will have to answer for the deaths.

Surely they could see there were people on the beach when they chose to land on it.

They should have been in proximity to the beach and any malfunction would have shown up long before they landed the plane.

We do not know what was wrong with the plane.

The assumed malfunction may have left no alternative but to land at that position and location.

Lets wait and see.

There may have been no path near shore which involved potential danger to less than two people. That pushes the plane out to a level where the pilot(s) may likely be injured beyond escape from a sinking aircraft. I think that in most ethical scenarios like for like is justified.

That tragic outcome could reasonably have been predicted. Nothing less than manslaughter.

That's my opinion smart-ass, and it ain't going to change. They ensured that their own skins were saved.
Unless you know all the technical details that caused the planes malfunction your statement can not be supported.

its a bit of a "trolly" problem for sure but its down to risks and probabilities. Crashing a Cesna in the sea is a risk but given it was a public beach there would have been lifeguards and help on the scene very quickly. they aint going to get much favourable press, apparently the people on the beach were very angry at the time.
