Charles Manson, one of the most notorious murderers of the 20th century, who was very likely the most culturally persistent and perhaps also the most inscrutable, died on Sunday in Kern County, Calif. He was 83 and had been behind bars for most of his life.

He died of natural causes in a hospital, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation said in a news release.

Mr. Manson was a semiliterate habitual criminal and failed musician before he came to irrevocable attention in the late 1960s as the wild-eyed leader of the Manson family, a murderous band of young drifters in California. Convicted of nine murders in all, Mr. Manson was known in particular for the seven brutal killings collectively called the Tate-LaBianca murders, committed by his followers on two consecutive August nights in 1969.

The most famous of the victims was Sharon Tate, an actress who was married to the film director Roman Polanski. Eight and a half months pregnant, she was killed with four other people at her Benedict Canyon home.

Threatened to kill, or have killed, Frank Sinatra.

" Let him out " said Frank

Well, I hope that he found it in him before the end to repent of his actions.

Unless he had a very late stage change of heart, he's never once shown the slightest remorse for his actions.

The world is a cleaner place today. Wonder when the film will come out, there's bound to be one? Although at the rate of ''sex pest'' scandals in Hollywood it could make finding an actor difficult, there can't be many left who haven't faced an accusation yet.
Antoine Fuqua directing Daniel Day Lewis would be good.

It'll be like Shakespears time but in reverse, women will play men's roles. The recent film about the life and death of notorious peado Gloria Grahame, who made headlines for raping her 12 year old stepson, is being hailed as a feminist masterpiece you'll be glad to know. It seems female child molesters are feminist heroes when they rape little boys but men are just scum, for something they may have said suggestively while drunk 30 years ago.

Tarantino's been making one for a while. It's going to be his next release. Some excellent pre-publicity here!

Kind of sad really - not his death, guy was seriously disturbed of course - but it's almost like the end of an era.

I'm sure Roman Polanski is delighted too, a man with a very definite sense of justice.

Good riddance to an utter piece of human excrement.
I'll raise a glass or two to his demise tonight.

It's amazing how buried the reference is to her affair with the 13-year-old son of one of her previous husbands and a former stepson of hers in this Wiki entry!
