Decoding China’s new threat from ISIS

On March 1, for the first time, the so-called Islamic State (ISIS) released a video showcasing militants from the Uyghur ethnic minority from China’s restive Xinjiang province in its ranks. The video proceeds to directly threaten Beijing with violence on behalf of ISIS before the Uyghur members of the terror group are shown executing an alleged informant.

“Oh, you Chinese who do not understand what people say. We are the soldiers of the Caliphate, and we will come to you to clarify to you with the tongues of our weapons, to shed blood like rivers and avenging the oppressed,” the video narrates according to lose translations corroborated by the SITE Intelligence Group.

The timing of the video’s release could be seen as deliberate with China over the past month orchestrating a show of power in its Xinjiang province, where Uyghur Muslims have been at odds with the state over issues of religious freedom, ethnic autonomy and in some cases secessionist Islamist ideologues wanting to set up a fundamentalist Islamic state in the region. As a result, Xinjiang has seen a host of knife attacks against its own people, and retaliatory policies by the Chinese government against Uyghur protestors that have reportedly killed hundreds over the past ten years.
And this - China: Xi Jinping wants ‘Great Wall of Steel’ in violence-hit Xinjiang

And - Uighur IS fighters vow blood will 'flow in rivers' in China

Vowing to plant their flag in China and that blood will "flow in rivers", a video released this week purportedly by the Islamic State group shows ethnic Uighur fighters training in Iraq, underscoring what Beijing sees as a serious threat.

China is worried that Uighurs, a mostly Muslim people from western China's Xinjiang region, have gone to Syria and Iraq to fight for militant groups there, having traveled illegally via Southeast Asia and Turkey.
Interesting report on this tonight on the Beeb World Service. China taking the threat very seriously .. piling in 1000's of troops and security to the Western Xinjiang province.

Who woke you up.

The Chinese have been liaising with Iraq and Syria for years regarding this problem. Your BBC link is two years old.

I think that this arises from decades of Chinese oppression of the Uighur population, including colonisation by ethnic Chinese. ISIS is exploiting the situation.

Sorry about that -- removed and replaced with more current link from Guardian. It is current.

As per Guardian:

In early March the Iraqi-arm of Isis released a gory online propaganda video in which a Uighur-speaking recruit vowed to spill the blood of “evil Chinese communist infidel lackeys”.

Unlike the west, China will be not be casualty averse and nor will it even pretend to have respect for human rights.

The extremists have probably met their match this time.

When the Chinese go about their business.
You will hear nothing about it from the anyone.
No bleating about human rights beyond the bare minimum.
No protests.
Nothing!

China doesn't do the weak PR bullshhit that the democracies have done since Vietnam. They will kill whatever number of men, women and children necessary to win the war that the west were too cowardly to win years ago.

China has been fighting in Xinjiang for years off and on. Until Mao took over, the area was heavily controlled by muslim warlords who treated Chinese terribly. Fighting has been increasing again over the last 20 years with increasing Saudi financing of the terrorists, with the USA turning a blind eye.

Sooner or later the Chinese will take the gloves off and give Saudi Arabia and the terrorists a dose of their own medicine. That day is is coming. Only a matter of when, not if, as Saudi's keep pushing.

The Chinese are pragmatic.
Iran is their partner central Asia
They will look at what they can gain over SA
But they will be ruthless.

The difference between weak-as-water open borders porous democracy and the chinese government is that the chinese leaders of the far-east have long term vision, not short term money making goals,(in it for the pension etc)they are in it for the long-haul,the love of their people and their country....They have no time for ''human rights'' bullsh*t,or any of the UN -EU fatally flawed walking on eggshells terminology....And if ISIS think they can get the chinese to walk on their tippie toes on eggshells around them and not harm a single hair on an ISIS members head.....They got another thing coming!

On the other hand, maybe Xinjiang should be an independent country?
Pathetic response, roll over....What is your wonderful solution to this problem of islamism all over the world? To let them take a slice of each country and call it an ''independent state'' ---- really very wise!:)
