America and the West has intellectual property that China would like to acquire without paying royalties for it even when it is for sale. The American government has accused the Chinese military of sponsoring hacking of American intellectual property and other confidential information in many fields, including national security.

To prevent hacking,American companies and government bodies could set poisoned software baits for hackers, for example flawed designs for machines and files filled with intelligence disinformaton. Businesses that develop the flawed designs could lose a lot of money.
