Ciara Conway accuses Mary Lou McDonald and SF of using Savita Death for political gain

Unreal how bad SF are on this. Pat Kenny discussing the way SF opporate north of the Border and different down south. Been waiting since 2007 in Northern Ireland and SF have done nothing

Mary Lou McDonald basically just confirmed they are opportune in looking the X case to be legislated ASAP - yet in Northern Ireland they are waiting for their own minister to give their report on abortion..

SF are all at sea.

Everyone should listen to thsi debate on RTE radio One - SF telling southerns one thing - yet doing exactly what Labour & FG are doing in Northern Ireland.

Ciara Conway is excellent

Dress it up all you want but what we have here is dirty politics by SF

Poots pledges to finally publish abortion guidelines but won’t confirm date - Northern Ireland, Local & National - Belfasttelegraph.co.uk

Health Minister Edwin Poots has said he “fully intends” to publish guidelines on abortion in Northern Ireland — but has refused to confirm a date.

Addressing the delay, the minister said he has had to ensure the guidelines were “robust enough” to withstand legal challenge.

NHS terminations can only be carried out in Northern Ireland to preserve the life of the mother or if continuing the pregnancy would adversely impact on her physical or mental health.

But some medical professionals and pro-choice campaigners have repeatedly warned that the lack of Department of Health guidelines for doctors and nurses on abortion leaves staff vulnerable to the risk of prosecution.

Dr Audrey Simpson, director of the pro-choice Family Planning Association (FPA) in Northern Ireland, described the case of Savita Halappanavar in Galway as “tragic”. “It underlines the urgency for Minister Poots to get the guidelines out here,” she said.

“It is an absolute disgrace that these guidelines are not out.” Mr Poots was unavailable. But in a statement issued on behalf of the department, he said: “I fully intend to publish guidance on termination of pregnancy.

“However, the issue has a history of judicial review and I must ensure that any guidance published by my department is robust enough to withstand legal challenge.

“I am considering the full range of issues involved and seeking advice where appropriate.”

Breedagh Hughes of the Royal College of Midwives said they have been calling for the guidelines to be published since 2004

SF say one thing to the people in NI and another to the people in RoI.

Northern Ireland are undergoing the same legislation - yet SF have waited. Clare Conway has just accused SF are using the death of another woman to further her party and broken promises made in April.

Two different jurisdictions! Two different sets of laws! And you probably know what we think of your opinions.

Heard it ..... And your wrong ....... Apart from again highlighting Kennys in your face Labour bias and his inability to be even remotely impartial ( conway no interruptions, mcdonald constant interruptions ) Conway failed to answer the question of why she alleges shes in favour but yet wont support the motion ..... andofffered nothing but a vague promises to publish a report , which she seems to think is the be all and end all.

This one could still rip the Government apart yet
